Hello and welcome to CricketCountry‘s live coverage of the first match of the triangular series featuring England and India along with hosts Sri Lanka. The first match will be played between the two foreign sides. India will be captained by the 19-year-old Ricky Bhui while England will be captained by 18-year-old Brad Taylor. It will be interesting to see what team combinations the young sides play. It will also be interesting to keep a keen eye out for these youngsters since these tournaments often prove to be the launch board for great international careers.
The series will serve as good practice for the youngsters ahead of the ICC U-19 World Cup. The first match will be particularly crucial for these sides as it will be a test of which youth team has the better adaptability since it will be foreign conditions for them both. One can say that the Indians have an advantage in that respect given that the conditions in Sri Lanka are often similar to what one gets in India itself. It is only a six-match series with one final to follow. Hence the points gained in each match will be very important.
All matches in the series will be played at the R Premadasa Stadium at Colombo and one can expect spin bowling to play a key part in proceedings however batsmen also enjoy adequate support at the ground as do fast bowlers, albeit to a lesser extent. The six group matches will be played in the period between December 11 and December 18 with the final game scheduled for December 21. The scheduling promises to give the colts a thorough working out.
LIVE CRICKET SCORE: ENg-U19 159/9 | Overs 29 | BATTING: B Green 23 (21), H Bernar 1 (3) : India colts have defeated England colts by 86 runs under the (D/L) method. The revised target after rains was set at 246 runs from 29 overs. The target proved way too much for the English young guns, who succumbed to the spin of Lomror and Dagar and were never in the match. The duo shared six wickets between them and kept it largely a one-sided affair.
Rahul Dravid must be really proud of his boys’ performance. The batsmen first made merry of English bowling, with young turk Sarfaraz Khan slamming 84 and Anmolpreet Singh getting a fifty as well. Others too chipped in with useful contributions and helped reach the team total to 254. That’s all from here. We will be back with the coverage of the next game. Till then, Ciao!
OUT! J Warner b Lomror 6(5), M Crane b Lomror 10(14),
LIVE CRICKET SCORE: ENg-U19 137/7 | Overs 23 | BATTING: B Green 11 (8), J Warner 0 (1) : England have lost their way into the match. Quick strikes by leg-spinner Mahipal Lomror have rattled their lower middle-order. It seems like the England colts have no clue as to how to face Lomror. They are simply unable to read him and are getting foxed by his leg-breaks. Lawrence has played the lone hand so far, with his 46-ball 55. All others have struggled. Indian bowlers have made merry, with Lomror being the pick of the bowlers. Kanishk Seth and Mayank Dagar too have been impressive.
OUT! D Lawrence c Seth b Mavi 55(46), T Moores c Lomror b Dagar 10(14), G Bartlett b Lomror 21(19), B Taylor b Lomror 0(4)
LIVE CRICKET SCORE: ENg-U19 95/3 | Overs 16| BATTING: D Lawrence 55 (45), G Bartlett 0 (1) : England colts are losing the plot here. Barring Lawrence, who is standing tall at one end, others are simply struggling at this wicket. Lawrence has completed his half-century and that too in a good time. He is currently batting at 55 from 45 balls and has hit seven fours and a couple of sixes. Adam Hickey was the last man to be dismissed when he was trapped in front of the wickets by Mayank Dagar.
OUT! A Hickey lbw b Dagar 9(26)
LIVE CRICKET SCORE: ENg-U19 58/2 | Overs 10| BATTING: D Lawrence 35 (29), A Hickey 2 (9) : England colts have lost two quick wickets in the pursuit of 255 after a brave start by their openers. First to go was opener Haseeb Hameed, who was tentative right from the onset. His uncomfortable stay ended when he was caught behind by keeper Rishabh Pant off Kanishk Seth’s bowling. One-down Jack Burnham did not trouble the scorers much as he was quickly sent back by Seth, who cleaned him up for two. Lawrence has been doing good so far and England would be hoping that he goes on for long.
OUT! H Hameed c Pant b Seth 9(16), J Burnham b Seth 2(9)
LIVE CRICKET SCORE: ENg-U19 37/0 | Overs 5| BATTING: D Lawrence 19 (17), H Hameed 9 (16) : In pursuit of 255, England colts have started on a good note. Their openers Dan Lawrence and Haseeb Hameed are maintaining a mixed approach in their game, ably blending caution with aggression. Lawrence has been the aggressor so far, having hit three boundaries so far. Hameed on the other hand has been a bit tentative so far. For India, Indore-lad Avesh Khan and Kolkata boy Kanishk Seth have opened the attack.
LIVE CRICKET SCORE: IND-U19 254/7 | Overs 34 | BATTING: M Dagar 7 (8) : India colts managed 56 runs from last seven overs of their innings. Bhui could not quite get going as he struggled to accelerate towards the end. He fell for 22 from 32 balls. Kishan hit a six in his 25-ball 27 but fell soon after. Mahipal Lomror, who scored 17-ball 21 with the help of two boundaries, was the last wicket to fall on the last ball of the innings. India’s final score of 7 for 254 from their 34 overs is a huge total on this deck. For Englan, Ben Green was the pick of the bowlers with his 3 for 28 from quota of seven overs. It will be interesting to see whether the young guns of England can chase it or not.
OUT! R Bhui b Warner 22 (32), I Kishan c Warner b Green 27 (25), M Lomror c Hickey b Green 21 (17)
LIVE CRICKET SCORE: IND-U19 198/4 | Overs 27 | BATTING: R Bhui 19 (25), I Kishan 12 (12) : GONE!! Relief for England colts as Sarfaraz has departed after a blistering 84 from 66 balls. He thrashed the English attack black and blue during his innings which saw 6 towering sixes and 4 boundaries. The hapless bowlers must be happy to see his back. Ishan Kishan has now joined the Indian captain Bhui in the middle. Seven overs remain now and the batsmen would look to go full throttle. The last phase of Indian innings will also test the bowling abilities of England colts at the death.
OUT! S Khan c Crane b Taylor 84(66)
LIVE CRICKET SCORE: IND-U19 156/3 | Overs 22 | BATTING: S Khan 68 (60), R Bhui 6 (13) : GONE!! Anmolpreet has been dismissed by Bernard. He tried to hit it hard towards the fence but found England bowler Green in between, who grabbed it with both hands. Indian captain Ricky Bhui has replaced him now. Sarfaraz meanwhile has changed his gears and has further accelerated. He is hitting boundaries at will here. If he stays till the end, India are in for a huge score here.
OUT! AP Singh c Green b Bernard 56(41)
LIVE CRICKET SCORE: IND-U19 117/2 | Overs 17 | BATTING: AP Singh 41 (32), S Khan 50 (51) : Sarfaraz is living upto his reputation here as the diminutive batsman has reached to his 50 in no time. Anmolpreet is complimenting him well with a fine 31-ball unbeaten 42. Both are playing an exciting brand of cricket. They have taken the attack to the opposition from the onset and look all set to take their team to a huge total here.
LIVE CRICKET SCORE: IND-U19 71/2 | Overs 11 | BATTING: AP Singh 22 (18), S Khan 24 (29) : Sarfaraz, the diminutive batsman from Mumbai who recently shifted cricketing base to Uttar Pradesh in domestic circuit, has been growing in stature in Indian cricket with every innings he plays. He has started off well here and has hit four boundaries so far. 40 runs have come in last five overs. Anmolpreet too is looking good and has already hit a couple of fours and a six. The due has not shown any nervousness after the early loss and has scored at a brisk rate.
LIVE CRICKET SCORE: IND-U19 31/2 | Overs 6 | BATTING: AP Singh 3 (8), S Khan 4 (11) : After a delayed start due to rain, England colts’ skipper Brad Green won the toss and asked India colts to bat first. The Indians have not got to a good start as they have lost both their openers Himanshu Rana and Rishabh Pant early. While Rana was caught behind off Hugh Bernard’s delivery for a brisk 18 that had four boundaries, wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant was trapped before the stumps by Green for 4. Anmolpreet Singh and star teenager Sarfaraz Khan are in the middle now. Sarfaraz has already made a mark for himself by playing for Mumbai and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL.)
