Pakistan set a massive target of 330 against India to win in the fifth One-Day International match at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday.
Hafeez and Jamshed showed aggressive intent right from the start and added more to Indian bowlers’ woes, who faced lot of criticism after their surprising loss to Bangladesh in the previous game.
Jamshed set the tone early when he cracked three boundaries off Praveen Kumar in the third over of the game.
The two Pakistan batsmen added 224 runs from the first wicket, which came from 35 overs at a brisk run rate of 6.25
Hafeez clobbered nine boundaries and a six to during his innings of 105 off 113 balls. His innings came to an end when he was trapped in front of the wickets by Ashok Dinda.
Jamshed’s knock of 112 off 104 balls included 10 boundaries and a six.
Both the batsmen kept Indian bowlers under immense pressure in the start as skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni tried eight bowlers in the first 25 overs, but none among them was able to contain the Pakistan openers, who added 150 runs for the first wicket.
All-rounder Shahid Afridi flopped with the bat scoring nine off 14 balls, but also completed his 7000 runs in one-day cricket.
Former skipper and middle-order batsman Younis Khan played a crucial knock of 52 off 34 balls, which included six boundaries. His innings came to an end when Suresh Raina took a brilliant catch at the extra cover.
Brief Scores: Pakistan 329 for 6 in 50 overs ( Nasir Jamshed 112, Mohammad Hafeez 105, Younis Khan 52; Ashok Dinda 2 for 47) vs India
