Against a rampant Sri Lankan bowling, Pujara played in the V, making sure he does not edge behind the wicket the way his fallen comrades did.
Suranga Lakmal ended Day Two with 3 for 5. Had there been more play, he was likely to inflict further damage. India are 75 for 5, and to steady the sinking ship, Pujara has Wriddhiman Saha at the other end. Although Saha struggled to find his feet against the moving ball, he managed to weather the storm and remain unbeaten before the day was called off.
Nic Pothas, after the day’s play, said his team is not going to take the No. 1 India lightly. Given Virat Kohli thrives when his team is in trouble, Sri Lanka would be wary of India’s counteraction.
