Sri Lanka 85/3, 32 overs, Siriwardena 9, Manodara 9

Sri Lanka are reverse-sweeping, sweeping, heaving, shimming down, and whatnot. Neither are they losing wickets, nor are they scoring boundaries. The required rate has scaled above 8.

Wed, 05 Jul 2017 08:24:08 pm

Sri Lanka 70/3, 24 overs. Siriwardena 4, Manodara 0
Sushma Verma was too fast on that one. Excellent keeping. Hansika loses balance. Poonam Yadavs picks her second wicket. India in command.
OUT! Hansika st Sushma Verma b Poonam Yadav 29

Sri Lanka 57/2, 18 overs, Hansika 20
Poonam Yadav could not have bowled it slower. Atapattu cannot believe it. she fails to read it. India get big fish. Sri Lanka in deep, deep trouble.
OUT! Chamari Atapattu b Poonam Yadav 25 (42)
Wed, 05 Jul 2017 07:43:57 pm

Sri Lanka 29/1, 10 overs, Hansika 14, Atapattu 3
Mandhana took two attempts to catch it but she catches it eventually. Jhulan Goswami draws first blood. Sri Lanka lose a wicket but start steady. Can Atapattu pull off her brilliance that she had displayed against Australia?

Wed, 05 Jul 2017 06:35:34 pm

India 232/8, 50 overs, Deepti Sharma 78, Mithali Sharma 53
Veda Krishnamurthy and Harmanpreet Kaur display late blitz to take India to a competive total, with the help of sloppy fielding by the Sri Lankans. They dropped as many as 3 catches - and all easy ones. Can their make amends for the fielding glitches?
Wed, 05 Jul 2017 05:48:55 pm

India 170/5, 40 overs, Veda 4, Harmanpreet 0
Deepti Sharma fails to clear the infield this time. The slower ball died on her as she tried to drive it over mid-off. India send Jhulan Goswami to launch an onslaught. She hit a boundary before holing out to Atapattu at deep mid-wicket. Off the next ball, Ranaweera traps Mitha in front. India lose 3 wickets in the last 4 overs.
Wed, 05 Jul 2017 05:20:08 pm

India 141/2, 35 overs, Deepti 66, Mithali 47
India have been forever trying to accelerate, but the slowness of the track has the kept the onslaught at bay. Deepti has been forever trying to shimmy down and she has finally found a way to clear the infield. After facing 89 deliveries, she has reached her 6th half-century. Meanwhile, Mithali is cruising to her 48th fifty.
Wed, 05 Jul 2017 04:41:17 pm

India 91/2, 26 overs, Deepti 37, Mithali 26 Mithali was on 1 off 17 balls. She is now on 26 off 42. India have accelerated in the last 6 overs. Mithali has managed to pierce gaps and Deepti clear the infield.

Wed, 05 Jul 2017 04:21:55 pm

India 63/2, 20 overs, Deepti 28, Mithali 7 Pitch is too slow. If shimmy down, you have get your footwork right. If you drive the ball, you have to have your head in a good position. If you pull the ball, you have to get behind it. It is not going to be easy to score runs on this track, and India are already struggling.

Wed, 05 Jul 2017 03:59:28 pm

India 43/2, 13 overs, Deepti 15, Mithali 0
Raut could have kept that down, but the slowness of the track had her outfoxed. Brilliant bowling by Weerakkody. She made Raut reach for that and into the hands of short cover. India lose both openers. In comes Mithali Raj. OUT! Punam Raut c Chamari Atapattu b Sripali Weerakkody 16 (29)

Wed, 05 Jul 2017 03:42:40 pm

India 36/1 in 9 Overs. Raut 16*, Deepti 9*. India are steady after losing Mandhana. Raut has looked composed so far, playing the ball on its merit. She has hit 3 fours so far, with one of them coming off an edge. But the other two were sublime hits through the covers. Deepti too is looking good so far. There's a marked improvement in Sri Lanka's fielding during this passage.

Second consecutive failure for Mandhana. The southpaw started the tournament on a high, slamming a 72-ball 90 against England and following it up with an unbeaten hundred against West Indies. But she has fallen for just 8 today. She failed to fire against Pakistan too. Coming to her dismissal, it was soft. The ball came in to her and she played it with soft hands on the on side, straight into the hands of the fielder at short mid-wicket. Good start for Sri Lanka.

India 14/0 after 4 overs. Raut 7*, Mandhana 6*. Decent start this from the solid pair of Raut and Mandhana. In Gunaratne and Weerakoody, Sri Lanka have started with a spin-pace pair. A couple of lbw calls, boundaries, edge flying to the boundary, and mis-fields; this small passage of play has seen it all. Sri Lanka need to be much better than how they have been so far, if they have to go the distance in this game.

Done with national anthems. Pep talk in process.

Wed, 05 Jul 2017 02:38:26 pm

Mithali Raj: "We will bat first. It looks like a good wicket to bat. We would want to put 250 on the board. There will be some nerves chasing it. If you see, the fast bowlers from other teams too have struggled so far. Maybe, in the middle overs, it has got something to do with the wicket slowing down and then the spinners come into play."

Hello and welcome to CricketCountry s live updates of match No. 14 of ICC Women s World Cup 2017 between India and Sri Lanka. We will provide live scorecard, match updates and intriguing posts from the social media space in this live blog. The tournament has so far been good for India, who are sitting atop the table with three wins from as many games. Their opponents Sri Lanka, on the other hand, are at the other end of the spectrum, having lost all three of their games. This contest, thus, is a matter of survival for them, while a win for India will take them closer to the semis.

Getting past India will not be an easy task for Sri Lanka, who have looked an ordinary side so far. Skipper Inoka Ranaweera, however, expressed confidence on her side ending on a high as their chances to enter the knockouts are bleak. At the moment India is doing really well so we ll definitely have to play very good cricket against them to win. As a team though we re in good condition, we are batting really well compared to the last few years. We ll be trying to do our best as a team against India, she said on the eve of the match.

Her Indian counterpart Mithali Raj, on the other hand, talked about the areas her team needs to improve on despite their superlative show so far. We definitely will look into the fact that we don t lose wickets back-to-back because that puts a lot of pressure on the incoming batters as well as the team. We need to work on our partnerships as batters. In terms of bowling, the spinners have been doing well, (against Pakistan) the pacers looked better than the last two games so it depends which wicket we play on against Sri Lanka. If it s a fresh wicket, then we have different plans for it, Mithali said on the eve of the clash against Sri Lanka.
