Hello and Welcome to CricketCountry’s live blog session and coverage of match No.6 of the ICC Women World Cup Qualifier 2017 between India Women and Thailand Women at Colombo. We will be providing you the live updates from this game. This tournament will act as an prelude to the World Cup main event that is to played in England in June this year. A total of 10 teams will be seen competing for the four spots that are up for grabs in the main draw. The four sides that qualified for the main tournament are Australia, England, New Zealand and West Indies, who will be joined by four more side in the eight-team tournament. The ICC Women’s World Cup will be played from June 26 to July 23 in England.
India ably led by Mithali Raj over Sri Lanka in their first match, which in turn was also the opening tie of the Qualifier stage. Batting first Indian eves posted a commendable target of 260 runs, with as many as three-batswomen scoring half-centuries. Skipper Mithali scored 70*, while Deepti Sharma and Devika Vaidya struck 54 and 89 runs respectively. The pair added 123 for the second wicket, as both batswomen went on to his their first fifties in international cricket. From Sri Lanka’s point of view, it was only Udeshika Prabodhani, who picked two wickets.
In reply, Sri Lanka started poorly, losing wickets quite regularly. Hasini Perera, top scored with 34, while Chamari Atapattu scored 30 runs. It was Ekta Bisht and Rajeshwari Gayakwad, who starred with the bowl picking two-wickets apiece. Sri Lanka could manage only 145 runs in their 50-overs, handing India an easy win by a massive margin of 144 runs.
Meanwhile, for Thailand this will be their first match of the tournament. 30 year-old Sornnarin Tippoch will their team with hopes of a winning start against Asian giants India. Thailand came out victorious in their warm-up match against Papua New Guinea. PNG scored only 74 runs, which was easily chased down by Thailand with Nattakan Chantam top scoring with 30 runs.
