INDIA Women 116/4 | Overs 39.1 | Win by 6 wickets with 65 balls to spare

The last few runs came at a breakneck pace as Mithali and Veda smashed those sixes. With both women on 46 and 5 to get, Veda lofted Shaquana Quintyne into the empty stands to beat her captain to the mark. Remember, India Women were 36/4 at one stage.

    INDIA Women 116/4 | Overs 37.5 | Target 132 | Mithali Raj 37(86) Veda Krishnamurthy 44(67)

Veda Krishnamurthy is really pushing things now, trying to finish things on early. Mithali Raj, content with her singles, knows how crucial that wicket is, and is content in helping push the boat ashore. Shakera Selman, West Indies Women’s best bowler (9-4-11-2) has a single over left.

  • 2:53 PM IST

    INDIA Women 97/4 | Overs 35 | Target 132 | Mithali Raj 30(74) Veda Krishnamurthy 35(62)

Slowly but surely Veda Krishnamurthy is taking charge as Mithali Raj is happy to take a backseat. Of course, being the seasoned professional she knows it all, and has been there, done that. Shakera Selman has sent down an over meanwhile, and her figures read a remarkable 8-4-4-2.

  • 2:42 PM IST

    INDIA Women 89/4 | Overs 33 | Target 132 | Mithali Raj 29(71) Veda Krishnamurthy 28(53)

Mithali Raj and Veda Krishnamurthy bat on. This has been a gritty show from the Indians. Remember, the West Indians had lifted the World T20 in this country earlier this year. Though this is a different format, it is not that different, and count on the West Indians to bounce back.

  • 2:31 PM IST

    INDIA Women 79/4 | Overs 30 | Target 132 | Mithali Raj 27(58) Veda Krishnamurthy 22(48)

Slowly, slowly Mithali Raj and Veda Krishnamurthy are bringing India Women back into the match. Mithali’s performance is nothing new, but Veda’s has been a pleasant surprise. Maybe it is time to recall Shakera Selman, who has figures of 7-4-3-2?

  • 2:17 PM IST

    INDIA Women 67/4 | Overs 26.3 | Target 132 | Mithali Raj 20(48) Veda Krishnamurthy 17(37)

And Mithali Raj and Veda Krishnamurthy continue to show gumption. Captain Stafanie Taylor brings herself on, but they stand firm. However, you must remember that this wicket holds key, and if they get one of the two (especially Mithali) out of the way West Indies Women will be back on top.

    INDIA Women 58/4 | Overs 23.1 | Target 132 | Mithali Raj 15(40) Veda Krishnamurthy 13(25)

Yeah, okay, India Women are clawing their way back into the match. True, it is too early to say that, but at least Mithali Raj and Veda Krishnamurthy have put up their biggest stand till now. Anisa Mohammed comes on.

    INDIA Women 47/4 | Overs 20 | Target 132 | Mithali Raj 12(33) Veda Krishnamurthy 6(13)

Some sort of rebuilding for India Women. Mithali Raj and Veda Krishnamurthy have acquired a boundary each. The West Indians have been superb, giving nothing away. It will be that woman Deandra Dottin now. This should be interesting.

  • 1:45 PM IST

    INDIA Women 36/4 | Overs 17 | Target 132 | Mithali Raj 7(25) Veda Krishnamurthy 0(3)

Ouch! Harmanpreet falls! Hayley Matthews strikes this time, India Women are reeling now. They have got a mere 8 runs in 9 overs and have lost 3 wickets in the process! It is all up to Mithali Raj now as Veda Krishnamurthy walks out.

OUT! Harmanpreet Kaur LBW b Hayley Matthews 1(15)!

    INDIA Women 35/3 | Overs 15.1 | Target 132

More bad news for India Women. Deepti Sharma, who was holding one end up so efficiently, has been trapped in front by Alfy Fletcher in her first over. Harmanpreet Kaur walks out to join Mithali Raj, but this was a massive blog.

OUT: Deepti Sharma LBW b Afy Fletcher 16(40)!

  • 1:24 PM IST

    INDIA Women 33/2 | Overs 11.3 | Target 132

India Women continue cautiously. While Mithali Raj is the big one, Deepti Sharma has dropped anchor at one end and has been doing a commendable job of it. This is the crucial wicket. They probably need to break the Shakera Selman shackles, but it seems they prefer to see her off.

    INDIA Women 29/2 | Overs 7.5 | Target 132

Ouch. Just as I typed that, Mona fell to Shakera Salman as Merissa Aguilleira takes the catch. Not good news, not good news, but the heck, Mithali Raj walks out. Can Captain Cool pull this off?
  • 1:08 PM IST

    INDIA Women 28/1 | Overs 7 | Target 132

Seems like Deepti Sharma and Mona Meshram have steadied the ship after that early departure of Smriti Mandhana. India are on track, but remember, this West Indies team is more than competent.

Hello and Good Afternoon! Welcome to the live cricket updates of India Women and West Indies Women’s 1st One-Day International (ODI) match at Mulapadu cricket Ground in Vijayawada. This is a part of ICC Women’s Chmapionship. Both the teams will be playing three ODIs and three Twenty20 International (T20Is) starting from November 10-22. India Women played their last match in the ICC Women T20 World Cup 2016, where they were eliminated within the group stages losing the match against West Indies. The latter won the tournament for the first time, beating the defending champions Australia Women in the final. There has been security concerns due to the recent terror attacks plus the area closer to Line of Control (LOC).

West Indies arrived well before to India in order to get better understanding of the playing conditions. West Indies led by Stafanie Taylor, has been at the top with their performance after being claimed as the champions of the T20 World Cup. India’s Mithali Raj led-side are charged up to better their positions in the ICC Rankings through this series, as mentioned by the Eves captain on Monday. The last time the Eves played the series against Australia, they lost by margin of 1-2. At the moment, India are placed No. 6 in the points table and what a better platform than this.

India did host Sri Lanka Women, where they eased through victory in both ODIs as well as T20Is, that took place ahead of T20WC. India still have lot of homework to be done considering the gruelling season that awaits the Eves in the coming months. Neither teams have had ideal preparation in the lead up to the final round of the ICC Women’s ODI Championship, the points from which will have a bearing on final standings that will see the top-four teams gaining an automatic entry to next year’s Women’s World Cup. At the moment India hold 13 points and are most likely to get direct entry into the Women World Cup, irrespective of the results here.

West Indies lost to England by margin of 2-1 at home but are very much under the cloud as they carry 22 points after six rounds. They have recalled their ace player Chedean Nation to the unit after almost seven years. There is Kycia Knight and Shakera Selman who is also returned to the squad. West Indies need to win just one more of their three remaining games should relieve them of some pressure but, despite their recent heroics in the land, the visitors cannot the hosts lightly.
