Hello and Good Afternoon! Welcome to the live cricket updates of India Women and West Indies Women’s 1st One-Day International (ODI) match at Mulapadu cricket Ground in Vijayawada. This is a part of ICC Women’s Chmapionship. Both the teams will be playing three ODIs and three Twenty20 International (T20Is) starting from November 10-22. India Women played their last match in the ICC Women T20 World Cup 2016, where they were eliminated within the group stages losing the match against West Indies. The latter won the tournament for the first time, beating the defending champions Australia Women in the final. There has been security concerns due to the recent terror attacks plus the area closer to Line of Control (LOC).
West Indies arrived well before to India in order to get better understanding of the playing conditions. West Indies led by Stafanie Taylor, has been at the top with their performance after being claimed as the champions of the T20 World Cup. India’s Mithali Raj led-side are charged up to better their positions in the ICC Rankings through this series, as mentioned by the Eves captain on Monday. The last time the Eves played the series against Australia, they lost by margin of 1-2. At the moment, India are placed No. 6 in the points table and what a better platform than this.
India did host Sri Lanka Women, where they eased through victory in both ODIs as well as T20Is, that took place ahead of T20WC. India still have lot of homework to be done considering the gruelling season that awaits the Eves in the coming months. Neither teams have had ideal preparation in the lead up to the final round of the ICC Women’s ODI Championship, the points from which will have a bearing on final standings that will see the top-four teams gaining an automatic entry to next year’s Women’s World Cup. At the moment India hold 13 points and are most likely to get direct entry into the Women World Cup, irrespective of the results here.
West Indies lost to England by margin of 2-1 at home but are very much under the cloud as they carry 22 points after six rounds. They have recalled their ace player Chedean Nation to the unit after almost seven years. There is Kycia Knight and Shakera Selman who is also returned to the squad. West Indies need to win just one more of their three remaining games should relieve them of some pressure but, despite their recent heroics in the land, the visitors cannot the hosts lightly.
