India begin their tour of Australia with the first of two two-day practice matches at Adelaide against Cricket Australia XI. After a disappointing 3-1 loss to England, the visitors will be hoping for a better result against Australia, and will look to this practice match to get there. Virat Kohli will be leading India in the absence of MS Dhoni.
The Indian spinners Karn Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin will have a huge task as they don’t come into the series with any expectations. The two regular spinners have poor overseas records, and this is the chance for them to improve their numbers. Jadeja and Ashwin are likely to compete for a spot in the XI.
Looking at the opposition, one would say that India may not be tested a lot. Young Ashton Turner leads a side that features some promising players such as Matthew Short and Alex Gregory. There aren’t any big names in this team. Which is why, this game is more a tryout for India than any serious indicator of the times ahead.
Teams:
Cricket Australia XI: Ashton Turner (c), Matthew Short, Josh Lalor, Ryan Carters (wk), Harry Conway, Nock Stevens, Alex Gregory, Seb Gotch, Jonte Pattison, David Moody, Kelvin Smith, Sam Grimwade.
