Mumbai Indians (MI), courtesy of Munaf Patel and Lasith Malinga’s wily bowling have managed to restrict Deccan Chargers (DC) to a moderate score of 138 runs) in the ninth Indian Premier League (IPL) 2012 match in Visakhapatnam.
Having won the toss, Deccan captain Kumar Sangakkara elected to bat first. But Munaf Patel gave two early blows to the home team as he got rid of Parthiv Patel and Bharat Chipli cheaply inside five overs.
But Shikhar Dhawan was undeterred by the loss of wickets at the other end as he scored handsomely against Munaf and Lasith Malinga. But Malinga put brakes on his batting as the southpaw was dismissed for 41 runs, nine run short of a well-deserved half-century.
Sangakkara, who joined the team on Monday as the captain managed to garner only 14 runs as Munaf bowled him in the 13th over.
All-rounder Daniel Christian took charge on the Deccan’s innings. Christian was involved in the highst partnership for the Deccan Chargers along with Cameron White. But the 41-run stand was dismantled by Munaf who was clearly the stand-out bowler for the visiting team with four wickets conceding just 20 runs.
Brief Score Deccan Chargers 138 for 9 in 20 overs (Shikhar Dhawan 41, Daniel Christian 39; Munaf Patel 4 for 20, Lasith Malinga 3 for 27) vs Mumbai Indians
