Karaikudi Kaalai will head to face Ruby Kanchi Warriors in the 28th game of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2016. The match will take place at the Indian Cement Company Ground in Tirunelveli. It will be a do-or-die game for Karaikudi Kaalai, as they can still make it to the next round, or play-offs provided they win by a good run-rate. Kaalai are sixth on the TNPL Points table and still have a chance to progress forward in the tournament. Meanwhile, Warriors are out of the competition and will play for pride. Therefore, it will be an exciting contest as Warriors won’t be making it easy for Kaalai, who have everything to lose. READ: TNPL 2016: TUTI Patriots thrash Madurai Super Giants by 33 runs

Kaalai are currently at the sixth spot and will need to win by a big margin to have any chance of getting above Tuti Patriots or Lyca Kovai Kings. Kaalai thpough, have become a better side as to what they were in the first two games of the TNPL. Despite getting beaten in the early stages of the tournament, they came back strongly in the next three matches to get back-to-back victories in their bags. READ: TNPL 2016: Players to watch out for

Kaaai rely heavily on their bowling, which consists of Sonu Yadav and R Rajkumar. Both of them have been instrumental in restricting oppositions to lesser totals. But none of their strategies worked against a red-hot Dindigul Dragons side, as Kaalai were handed a 7-wicket loss. Their batting didn’t click and they could not stop Ganga Sridhar Raju and Wilkins Victor to take the Dragons to a win. Only, Chandrasekhar Ganpathy and Suresh Babu could take two wickets and one wicket respectively.

That loss has now put tremendous pressure on them, and left them in need of a big win. Subramaniam Badrinath and Anirudha Srikkanth will have to shoulder the responsibility of scoring the majority of the runs, if they want to move forward in the tournament and get a win against the Warriors. Opener Vijay Kumar will also have to chip-in, as he has got starts but failed to convert them in to big ones. Kaalai cannot afford anymore batting failures, this is their last chance.

Warriors on the contrary, began their campaign with a win in the super-over, but it never went right for them ever since. Their batsmen have failed to stitch partnerships in crucial overs of the innigns and that has cost them a lot. That infact, has also been one of the major reasons as to why they have been knocked out of the tournament.

Bharath Shanker and Nilesh Subramanian have been good in patches, but overall the the entire batting order hasn’t been able to contribute as a unit. Wickets falling at regular intervals, a batting collapse in most of their games, has been their sad story in this year’s TNPL. The bowling though, has been impressive, but they too haven’t been as consistent as the Warriors would have liked.

J Kousik and AC Pratibhan have been really good. They have emerged as some of the finds for Warriors. M prabhu and R Jesuraj have contributed their bit as well. Although the Warriors le the game slip away from their grasp after getting a few early wickets, and that has been another worrying area. But against Kaalai, they have nothing to lose. They are out of the trophy race and have an opportunity to party-spoilers.

If the Warriors can somehow get a win under their belt, it won’t only send Kaalai out of the trophy contention, it would earn them lost lost pride as well.
