Defending champions Karnataka have a tough ask ahead of them. Haryana will start Day Three 137 runs in lead with all 10 wickets intact. The two centurions of the first innings — Jayant Yadav, and more importantly, Virender Sehwag — are yet to bat. To make things worse, Manish Pandey, having picked up an injury while fielding, did not bat — and is unlikely to take further part in the match. Karnataka are yet to win a match in the tournament. Haryana bowlers have been doing decent job so far. Although they haven’t made nay breakthroughs yet, but they have kept the batsmen under control. While Uthppa clearly seems to be struggling, Rahul is the one who will have to take charge of their chase. His 11-ball 9 is inclusive of the lone boundary for Karntaka since their second innings began.

He was out off Shreyas Gopal’s elivery and was caught by Robin Uthappa. Saini who scored a good half-century got out leaving Haryana at 103 for 2 with eight wickets to spare. From here, the visitors lead the defending champions by 224 runs. Surprisingly Virender Sehwag did not come out to bat and instead H J Rana came in at No. 4.

Haryana resumed Day Two on 319 for 8 and were bowled out for 331. HS Sharath, who took a hat-trick on Day One, finished with 5 for 48. KL Rahul (63 in 103 balls, 7 fours) batted brilliantly, but from 87 for 1 Karnataka were suddenly reduced to 117 for 4. There was some fight from CM Gautam (41 not out in 103 balls, 4 fours) and Vinay Kumar (34 in 65 balls, 4 fours, 1 six), and at 221 for 6 it seemed they would make a fight of it. But Rahul Dagar removed Vinay Kumar, David Mathias, and Sharath in the space of 4 balls, and with Pandey not available, Karnataka were bowled out for 221. Rahul Dewan and Nitin Saini saw off the Karnataka bowling till stumps, finishing on 23. Karnataka will need a special effort to win from here.
