Live cricket score update | Kings XI Punjab 88/2 | Overs 11 | Shaun Marsh 33 (23), Glenn Maxwell 28 (19): Harbhajan Singh bowled a brilliant over until Glen Maxwell scythed a length ball over mid-wicket. He conceded 7 runs off the 10th over. KXIP needed 115 off 10 overs. Rohit gives the ball to Kieron Pollard. Given the pitch’s been holding, Pollard will be handy with his slower balls. However, Pollard did not start off well, as Maxwell edged back of length past the keeper. Maxwell followed it with yet another boundary past short third man. He conceded 13 runs off the 11 over.

Live cricket score update | Kings XI Punjab 68/2 | Overs 9 | Shaun Marsh 27 (17), Glenn Maxwell 14 (13): Rohit Sharna gives the 7th over to Krunal Pandya. Krunal has been brilliant with his slow left-arm spin in this tournament. Marsh showed some sense of urgency in this over. He spanked length ball over mid-wicket and kept the scoreboard ticking. Krunal eventually conceded 10 runs off the bowler. Rohit made another bowling change by introducing Harbhajan Singh into the attack. He started off the over by tossing it up. However, Marsh eventually found a much needed boundary. It wasn’t a bad over, as Harbhajan conceded only 7 runs off the over. Krunal Pandya continued and bowled the 9th over. Maxwell was itching to take Krunal to the cleaners but could not do so. He took a single and let Marsh take charge. Marsh pulled a length ball over mid-wicket. MI conceded 28 runs in the last 3 overs.

Live cricket score update | Kings XI Punjab 40/2 | Overs 6 | Shaun Marsh 8 (6), Glenn Maxwell 6 (6): Jasprit Bumrah into the attack to bowl the 5th over. He has not been at his lethal best as he was in the recently concluded ICC World T20 2016. Not only has been leaking runs but also could not scalp wickets when the team needed him to. OUT, Manan Vohra joins Murali Vijay in the dug out, holes out back of length ball to backward point, Buttler yet again makes no mistake. Tim Southee changes end. Glenn Maxwell the batsman. FOUR, Southee strays down the leg side and Maxwell punishes him, easy pickings for the Big Show. MI are still in the driver’s seat by making the early inroads. The onus is now on Maxwell and Marsh to take KXIP over the line. Only 12 off the last 2 over.

OUT! Manan Vohra c Buttler b Bumrah 7 (11)

Live cricket score update | Kings XI Punjab 28/1 | Overs 4 | Shaun Marsh 4 (3), Manan Vohra 5 (8): McClenaghan to continue. Shaun Marsh is the new batsman. He and Vohra will have to stitch a good partnership to put KXIP in the driver’s seat. MI were in a similar situation; MI had lost their in-form opener as well. Marsh has been playing for KXIP since in the inception of IPL He’ll have to lead the resurgence to register KXIP’s 2nd victory. McClenaghan was right on the money in this over. Only 7 runs off the over.

Live cricket score update | Kings XI Punjab 21/1 | Overs 3 | Shaun Marsh 0 (0), Manan Vohra 2 (5): Southee to continue. We saw Vijay showing intentions to go big. It will be a challenge for Southee to contain runs on this belter of a track. One of these openers will have to fire on all cylinders and the other has to rotate strike. SIX, it seems Vijay’s going to play the aggressor’s role, length ball and heaved over deep square leg. OUT, Vijay plays an ambitious shot, skies slower ball and Buttler at mid-wicket makes no mistake. Southee draws first blood. KXIP under pressure.

OUT! Murali Vijay c Buttler b Southee 19 (13)

Live cricket score update | Kings XI Punjab 10/0 | Overs 2 | Murali Vijay 10 (9), Manan Vohra 0 (3): Mitchell McClenghan to Murali Vijay. McClenaghan has bee MI’s best bowler so far. Swing, yorker, slower bouncer: he’s got variety of deliveries in his bowling armoury. He’ll play a key role in defending 190 runs. FOUR, length ball on middle, wristy Vija flicks over mid-wicket. Delight to watch the elegant Vijay in action. Mcclenghan did not pitch up after the boundary. He pulled his length back. FOUR more, McClenaghan bowls on Murali’s pads, he plays it fine. It’s an offence to bowl Vijay on his pads. 9 runs off the over.

Live cricket score update | Kings XI Punjab 1/0 | Overs 1 | Murali Vijay 1(3), Manan Vohra 0 (3): Tim Southee to open the bowling for Mumbai Indians. We saw Sandeep Sharma swing the ball in the first innings. It would be interesting to see if Tim shapes away from the KXIP openers. So far Southee has been right on the money. Did not let Murali Vijay open his arms and score runs. Not heavy swing for him. Bowled in the corridor of uncertainty. Vijay and Vohra played with caution.

*KXIP innings*

Live cricket score update | Mumbai Indians 189/6 | Overs 20: Mohit Sharma to bowl the final over of the innings. Keiron Pollard on strike. The crowd is on its feet. Will Pollard take MI past 200 or Mohit dismiss him with his slower ones? And Mohit Sharma win the battle. Bowls back-of-the-hand slower delivery and Pollard top-edges it to short third man. KXIP co-owner is jumping in delight. OUT, another one bites the dust, Hardik Pandya top edges this time. Brilliant bowling by Mohit Sharma. 2 wickets and only 4 runs off the over. At one point, it seemed MI will go past 200. Excellent comeback by KXIP in the last over. KXIP need 190 runs to win.

OUT! Kieron Pollard c Sandeep Sharma b Mohit Sharma 10 (9)

OUT! Hardik Pandya c D Miller b Mohit Sharma 4 (2)

Live cricket score update | Mumbai Indians 185/4 | Overs 19 | Kieron Pollard 6 (4), Hardik Pandya 4 (1): Mitchell Johnson into the attack. With only 2 overs to go, batsmen will go all guns blazing. This is the right time for Johnson to take a wicket. Parthiv has only 2 overs to score his maiden T20 hundred. OUT, Parthiv departs, tries to hit slower bouncer over short third man, but miscues it to backward point. Gem of an innings by the diminutive batsman! Despite losing their star batsman and skipper Rohit Sharma, he kept the scoreboard ticking with elegant strokes. Hardik Pandya the new batsman. FOUR, what a way to get off the mark. 9 runs and a wicket off the over.

OUT! Parthiv Patel c S Marsh b Johnson 81 (58)

Live cricket score update | Mumbai Indians 176/3 | Overs 18 | Kieron Pollard 1 (2), Parthiv Patel 80 (56): Another Sharma in action. Mohit into the attack. Parthiv is on 79. He’s got a good chance to score his maiden T20 century. We saw Virat Kohli gracing Sachin Tendulkar’s birthday with his maiden T20 ton. Will we see 2nd century of this season? FOUR, scoop by Buttler again. That was right in the block hole. Nothing wrong with the delivery. This format has been harsh on the bowlers. FOUR more, slower ball and Buttler had all the time in the world to scoop it again over the keeper’s head. Mohit Sharma under fire. OUT, back-of-the-hand ball knocks over Jos Buttler, he got early into the shot and missed a straighter one. Remarkable comeback by Mohit Sharma.

OUT! Jos Buttler b Mohit Sharma 24 (13)

Live cricket score update | Mumbai Indians 165/2 | Overs 17 | Jos Buttler 16 (9), Parthiv Patel 79 (55): Sandeep Sharma to bowl out! He has been the only impressive bowler tonight. He needs to continue his stellar performance and restrict MI below 190. FOUR, reverse scoop? How do you explain that? Pitched up outside off. Buttler shuffle and gives an impressive that he wants to play Dil-Scoop but guides it over 1st slip. These unconventional shots I tell you. I grew up watching the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Brian Lara, Ricky Ponting. I never saw something like this in the late 90s. Cricket has highly evolved, I must admit. 9 runs of the over. 3 overs to go. Can Mumbai go past 200?

Live cricket score update | Mumbai Indians 156/2 | Overs 16 | Jos Buttler 9 (4), Parthiv Patel 78 (54): Pardeep Sahu to bowl his 3rd over. SIX, juicy full toss scythed over deep square leg, Parthiv read it early and made full use of it. SIX more! Jos Buttler joins the party. Short ball outside off. That was slower Buttler than it appeared. He had all the time in the world to pull it over long on. No holding back Mi batsmen tonight. Massive over! 16 runs off it. This is highest total MI scored batting first this season.

Live cricket score update | Mumbai Indians 140/2 | Overs 15 | Jos Buttler 1 (1), Parthiv Patel 68 (49): Akshar Patel to bowl out! SIX off the first ball. Ambati Rayudu goes down town. He timed it to perfection. Akshar Patel under pressure. SIX more. Back to back maximums. Rayudu’s taking Akshar Patel to the cleaner. KXIP captain David Miller looks clueless. OUT, KXIP finally break the partnership. Rayudu and Parthiv stitch 137-run partnership. It has been a treat to watch these two playing brilliant strokes. Proper cricket! 15 runs and a wicket!

OUT! Ambati Rayudu c Vohra b Axar 65 (37)

Live cricket score update | Mumbai Indians 125/1 | Overs 14 | Ambati Rayudu 53 (34), Parthiv Patel 68 (49): Mitchell J0hnson into the attack. He’s been in a rough patch off late. Hasn’t been able to provide impetus. He needs a wicket or two and he’ll roar again. FOUR, Parthiv plays a cover drive on the up. That was sweetly timed. He has a strike-rate of 137. He needs to keep marching. Fire on ally cylinder. FOUR, delight to watch Parthiv! Vintage Parthiv! This time goes over mid-wicket. He’s hit runs all over the ground. Will he score a hundred tonight? 9 runs off the over.

Live cricket score update | Mumbai Indians 114/1 | Overs 13 | Ambati Rayudu 52 (33), Parthiv Patel 58 (44): Mohit Sharma back into the attack. 50 for Parthiv Patel. Though fortune favoured him on couple of occasions, he still managed to pull of another half-century. He has been blowing hot and cold in IPL 2016. He needs to convert this 50 into a big innings. He need not think about the wickets. MI have Jos Buttler, Kieron Pollard after this. He should go all guns blazing and take his team past 180. FOUR, Parthiv goes down town, makes room, and plays over the bowler’s head. What an outlandish talent Parthiv is! Oh, FOUR more! Inside out this time. 13 runs off the over.

Live cricket score update | Mumbai Indians 101/1 | Overs 12 | Ambati Rayudu 51 (32), Parthiv Patel 48 (39): Akshar Patel to bowl his 3rd over. SIX, Rayudu shimies down the track and spanks it over the bowler’s head, that was might blow! FOUR, this time over cover, one bounce into the fence. Half-century for Rayudu. He is on a roll tonight. The decision to promote him at No. 3 has paid off. He has been in ominous touch in this season of IPL. He has played many match-winning innings at this position in the past for Mumbai Indians. *3,000 T20 runs for Ambati Rayudu* 14 runs off the over.

Live cricket score update | Mumbai Indians 87/1 | Overs 11 | Ambati Rayudu 39 (28), Parthiv Patel 46 (37): Pardeep Sahu to continue. He was on the shorter side in his 1st over. He needs pitch it up and force the batsman to clear the ground. That’s the only way he can break this crucial partnership. He’s got a decent action. Gets a zip off the track. Needs to work on his consistency though. And MI gets a boundary in this over as well. Parthiv smashes it over long on. 10 runs off the over. MI in total control now. KXIP are losing the plot.

Live cricket score update | Mumbai Indians 77/1 | Overs 10 | Ambati Rayudu 37 (25), Parthiv Patel 38 (34): Akshar Patel to continue. He’s been bowling quicker. He needs to toss it up and outfox the batsman with flight. *Fortune favours Pathiv again* That was nicely flighted, deceives Parthiv, he loses his balance, appeal for stumping. Third Umpire is having a look at it. Parthiv makes his ground in time. Line belongs to the umpire. He way maybe a centimetre or two inside the crease. Good take by the wicket-keeper. FOUR, charmed existence for Parthiv, width on offer and Parthiv heaves and gets a thick outside edge. 8 runs off the over.

Live cricket score update | Mumbai Indians 69/1 | Overs 9 | Ambati Rayudu 35 (23), Parthiv Patel 32 (30): Another bowling change. Leggie Pardeep Sahu into the attack. We have experienced leg-spinner’s importance in the recently concluded ICC World T20 2016. He’s been on the shorter side so far. Parthi and Rayudu are rocking back and spanking him. They have failed to find a gap so far. FOUR, width on offer and Rayudu plays a square cut. DROPPED, nicely tossep up, Rayudu miscues and Akshar Patel at deep mid-wicket comes running forward and drops it. Took his eyes off the ball. Another blunder by KXIP. First the No Ball by Johnson and now a drop by Akshar. 9 runs off the over/

Live cricket score update | Mumbai Indians 60/1 | Overs 8 | Ambati Rayudu 28 (19), Parthiv Patel 30 (28): Glenn Maxwell into the attack. Interesting bowling change. He being a part-time bowler, will MI batsmen take him to the cleaners? 50 partnership for Parthiv and Rayudu. They couple aggression with caution so far. And Rayudu does what we thought of. Rayudu dances down the track and scythes it over long on. That was lovely shot. Yet again, MI  are dealing in singles. They got that one big hit in this over as well. 11 runs off the over.

Live cricket score update | Mumbai Indians 49/1 | Overs 7 | Ambati Rayudu 18 (14), Parthiv Patel 29 (27): Parthiv Patel has successfully led MI’s resurgence so far. Yes, he was lucky but has been belligerent so far. 2nd change by Killer Miller. Mohit Sharma into attack. Another line-and-length bowler. He’s been decent this season. Has not taken wickets but managed to keep lid on the runs. However, he needs to take a wicket and put MI on the back foot. It seems MI are happy to deal in single. They have not played a rash shot so far. Like Rayudu did in the last few over, he takes a single and gives the strike to Parthiv. And Parthiv hit another FOUR. He’s on a rampage. No stopping him tonight. Plays late cut. Third is up in the circle. Captain Miller pushes third man back now. Parthiv is playing with Miller’s mind with his variety of shots. KXIP have conceded at least one boundary every over so far. 10 runs off the over.

Live cricket score update | Mumbai Indians 39/1 | Overs 6 | Ambati Rayudu 15 (11), Parthiv Patel 23 (24): Last over of the batting Powerplay. MI should make full use of it and hit boundaries. Mitchell Johnson back into the attack. Change of ends for him. Miller wants to attack and get one more wicket. FOUR, pitched up on middle, Rayudu plays down the ground, good presentation of the bat, photographer’s shot. No Ball, Parthiv holes out to deep square leg, Umpire asks Parthiv to stay back, that is a massive No Ball, well ahead of the line, that would have been a huge wicket. *This is the first No Ball bowled by KXIP in IPL 9* Free Hit, no harm done, he holes out to mid-wicket. Caught twice but still survives. FOUR, back of length on leg stump, Parthiv pulls past short fine leg. FOUR more, Johnson on Parthiv’s pads and he flicks to deep square leg. Johnson needs to get his line right. 14 runs off the over.

Live cricket score update | Mumbai Indians 25/1 | Overs 5 | Ambati Rayudu 10 (9), Parthiv Patel 15 (19): Sandeep Sharma to continue. He starts with his line-and-length bowling. Not giving anything away. MI seem to have a plan in place. Rayudu is happy playing the second fiddle. Takes and single and gives the strike to Parthiv. Now Sandeep is mixing it up as well. Bowls a slower bouncer and deceives Parthiv. Parthiv’s pulling everything that’s on a shorter side. FOUR, Rayudu gives a charge, Sandeep pulls his length and Rayudu puller over the bowler’s head, brilliant shot, had to change his mid at the last moment. 7 runs off the over.

Live cricket score update | Mumbai Indians 18/1 | Overs 4 | Ambati Rayudu 4 (6), Parthiv Patel 14 (16): First bowling change. Akshar Patel into the attack.  KXIP need wickets. This is a good tactic by Captain David Miller. Taking pace of the ball. This will compel MI to go big and loose wicket in haste. Akshar bowls well. Not willing to toss up. He’s firing in on middle leg. MI batsmen are happy to take singles. Good cricket all round. Only 5 runs off the over.

Live cricket score update | Mumbai Indians 13/1 | Overs 3 | Ambati Rayudu 1 (3), Parthiv Patel 12 (13): Sandeep to Parthiv. DOT, punched to mid off.  DOT, punched to mid on this time, Sandeep is bowling a tight line and length, back of length on Parthiv’s off stump. DOT, width on off, Parthiv fails to find gap on off side, looking in good touch tonight. TWO, brilliant line and length again, but it was equally played well by Parthiv, gets on top of it and punches to the off side. DOT, short ball, Parthiv must have seen Cricbuzz’s Ad, he duck well. DOT, Parthiv’s special flick to end the over.

Live cricket score update | Mumbai Indians 11/1 | Overs 2 | Ambati Rayudu 1 (3), Parthiv Patel 10 (7): Mitchell Johnson to Parthiv. DOT, inside edge on the pads, loud shout for LBW, umpire turns it down, Parthiv survive. FOUR, hit on the up by Parthiv, terrific cover drive. FOUR more, fine leg up in the circle, don’t bowl on Parthiv’s pads, bad ball, Mitch needs to get his line right. ONE, back of length on off, better ball, quick single. Rayudu on strike. DOT, body-line short ball, Mitch needs to bowl these more often. DOT, swing and a miss, good comeback by Mitch.

Live cricket score update | Mumbai Indians 2/1 | Overs 1 | Ambati Rayudu 1 (1), Parthiv Patel 1 (3): Rohit Sharma takes the strike. Sandeep Sharma to open the bowling. DOT, hint of swing right away, jabbed back, Rohit gets behind it. OUT, captain fantastic departs, duck for Rohit, in-swinger, back of length, gets a faint edge, loose shot, tried to cut, did not get in a good position, KXIP make early inroads. Ambati Rayudu the new batsman. ONE, gets off the mark, in-swinger outside off, guided to third man. Parthiv Patel to face his first ball. DOT, out-dwinger to Parthiv, he defends it to cover point, tinge of grass on the pitch. DOT, shaped away again, Parthiv cuts to backward point, he’s itching to get off the mark. DOT to finish the over!

OUT! Rohit c Nikhil Naik b Sandeep Sharma 0 (2)

TOSS UPDATE: KXIP win toss and elect to bowl.

Playing XI:

Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma(c), Parthiv Patel (wk), Ambati Rayudu, Hardik Pandya, Jos Buttler, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Harbhajan Singh, Tim Southee, Mitchell McClenaghan, Jasprit Bumrah

Kings XI Punjab: Murali Vijay, Manan Vohra, Shaun Marsh, David Miller (c), Glenn Maxwell, Nikhil Naik (wk), Akshar Patel, Mitchell Johnson, Mohit Sharma, Pardeep Sahu, Sandeep Sharma

MI have been trying and testing various team composition. Too much of chopping and changing of players is the prime reason why MI have been at the doorstep of defeat often. The likes of Martin Guptill and Corey Anderson have been warming the bench. While Jos Buttler failed to deliver every time his team was in trouble, Kieron Pollard played innings of substance only once in 5 matches he played. Moreover, Pollard has not been used an all-rounder so far by the captain. Thus, it would be interesting to see if MI make any substantial changes tonight.

Other than Murali Vijay, none of the KXIP players have consistently made significant contribution to take the team over the line. Captain David Miller and the Big Show from Australia—Glenn Maxwell—have not been able to find their feet and will be keen to make amends to keep the Playoffs hopes alive. However, pacers such as Sandeep Sharma and Mohit Sharma have been able to keep lid on the runs but failed to take wickets at regular intervals. IPL 2016 Schedule, Time Table, Fixture PDF Download

Given the team composition, MI have a slight edge over KXIP in tonight’s contest. However, it would be unfair to write off KXIP as they boost of players who have made an impact at the international level as well.

Squad:

Kings XI Punjab: David Miller (c), Murali Vijay, Manan Vohra, Mitchell Johnson, Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Kyle Abbott, Anureet Singh, Armaan Jaffer, Farhaan Behardien, KC Cariappa, Rishi Dhawan, Gurkeerat Singh, Nikhil Naik, Akshar Patel, Wriddhiman Saha, Pardeep Sahu, Sandeep Sharma, Mohit Sharma, Marcus Stoinis, Swapnil Singh, Shardul Thakur

Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, Hardik Pandya, Ambati Rayudu, Jagadeesha Suchith, Jasprit Bumrah, Parthiv Patel, Vinay Kumar, Shreyas Gopal, Nitish Rana, Siddhesh Lad, Unmukt Chand, Akshay Wakhare, Mitchell McClenaghan, Corey Anderson, Kieron Pollard, Marchant de Lange, Jos Buttler, Nathu Singh, Tim Southee, Krunal Pandya, Kishore Kamath, Deepak Punia, Jitesh Sharma, Martin Guptill
