Hello and Welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of Day 5 of the second and final Test match between hosts New Zealand and visitors Australia of the 2015-16 Trans-Tasman Trophy at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Tuesday. Australia has so far ruled this match so far needing only 131 runs to win and make it a complete white wash and retain the Trans-Tasman Trophy 2015-16 against New Zealand in the second Test at Christchurch. It has been a high scoring encounter with New Zealand  posting a humongous 370 in the first innings after being asked to bat first by Australia. The visitors then replied with a mammoth 505. However, New Zealand were not able to repeat their first innings performance in the second innings bundling out for 355 on Day 4 and with Australia requiring 201 runs to win the game, at stumps they were survived by Joe Burns and Usman Khawaja on 70/1. Smith is unable to get the requires 35 runs as Joe Burns loses out on remaining not-out. In a bid to get quick runs Burns was cleaned up by Trent Boult.  Morning session extended as Smith believes he can chase 32 run in the 15 mins of play extension. FIFTY for Joe Burns off just 137 balls.  Neil Wagner comes into the attack with a fracture on his knuckle bowls a maiden to Joe Burns. STAT ALERT: Brendon McCullum’s catch of Usman Khawaja was his 198th catch in Test (highest for a New Zealand player). Steven Smith comes into the middle, gets off the ball first ball.

First over post DRINKS and Burns pulls Anderson for a boundary, Burns into the 40’s. Southee comes into the attack, second change in as many overs by Brendon McCullum. only to bowl a maiden. Corey Anderson goes for 7 runs from his first.  Burns pulls Anderson on fourth ball. Anderson comes into the attack, as Usman Khawaja picks him for three runs off the bat foot second ball. Wagner continues to trouble Joe Burns who has looked a bit unease, ends up giving another maiden over, this might his last off this spell.
Live Cricket Score, Australia 100/1 in 32 overs | Target 201  | Batting: Joe Burns 30 (106), Usman Khawaja 42 (55): Hundred up for Australia, require more 101 runs to win.  Burns with single brings up the fifty run stand between himself and Khawaja, who this morning has looked more fluent, as compared to Burns. Neil Wagner has been bowling his heart out since yesterday, continues to bowl with all his strength, not to mention with a heavy strapped left hand.  Burns scored his first runs since the morning, half an hour off play already done. Trent Boult has bowled good lines since the morning giving away nothing to the batsmen, thus far.

Khawaja give himself room and hits Wagner for a boundary first ball of the 26th over. Wagner continues his short ball treatment to Joe Burns and Usman Khawaja, hits Burns on the side of the helmet in the 25th over.

Usman Khawaja middle edges the ball between the keeper and first slip. Boult to continue from the other end . Neil Wagner continues to pepper Joe Burns with short pitch stuff, maiden first up. Wagner comes into bowl the first over of Day 5 as Australia look to win the 2nd Test chasing 131 on final day of play.

 

Day 4 was a day of two emotions for Australia the happy kind and the frustating kind. To start of Kane Williamson and Corey Anderson kept upping the score board by surviving early scare from James Pattinson and Josh Hazlewood. Post Lunch it was Jackson Bird who rattled New Zealand by grabbing 3 quick wickets before Matt Henry and BJ Watling added 118 runs for the eight wicket to pile on misery on the Australians.  Williamson fell on 97, while Henry and Waltling made 45 & 46 respectively. Final session Bird and Pattinson cleaned up the tail with the former picking 5 wickets and latter 4 . Australia needed just 201 runs to win, were off to a good start, only to lose Warner at 22 by another Neil Wagner short ball.
