Hello, good morning and welcome to CricketCountry’s live cricket blog and updates post for the final day’s play between New Zealand and South Africa at the University Oval at Dunedin. I am Rohan Arun Sawant, bringing you the live cricket scores and updates from the fifth day’s play. This promises to be a great day for Test cricket and let us hope the weather permits the same. South Africa have managed a lead of 191runs and still have four wickets in hand. The important bit is their skipper Faf du Plessis is still at the crease. The South African innings had three major contributors. Opener Dean Elgar cashed-in on his rich form to score a patient 89. JP Duminy scored 39, whereas skipper du Plessis contributed with a vital 56 not out. New Zealand bowlers received a setback with Trent Boult getting injured. This means they are with nine fit men on the field. Earlier, they lost Ross Taylor too. While South African batters will look forward to add some important runs on the board, the onus is on the Kiwi spin-twins — Patel and Mitchell Santner to restrict them to a score below 220.
Even chasing that score will not be easy for the injury-torn New Zealand side as South Africa have a good bowling attack, and the former will be the one under pressure. Having said so, in Kane Williamson, New Zealand have one of the greatest contemporary batters. If the rain gods stay calms, we are up for a riveting final day’s play at the beautiful city of Dunedin.
New Zealand: Kane Williamson (c), BJ Watling (wk), Tom Latham, Jeet Raval, Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Neil Wagner, Jeetan Patel, Trent Boult.
South Africa: Faf du Plessis (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Stephen Cook, Dean Elgar, Hashim Amla, Jean-Paul Duminy, Temba Bavuma, Vernon Philander, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Morne Morkel.
