Pakistan scored 452 in their first innings thanks to a brilliant century from Younis Khan on his return and a solid 96 from skipper Misbah-ul-Haq. Asad Shafiq and Sarfraz Ahmed too notched up the fifties to take Pakistan past the 400-run mark. For West Indies, it was Shannon Gabriel, who picked up his maiden five-wicket haul and captain Jason Holder contributed three wickets in the first innings. West Indies in reply managed to put up just 224 on the board. The top order got starts but none of them managed to make a big score. It was Darren Bravo, who once again top-scored with 43, this time opening the innings. Yasir Shah was the pick of the Pakistan bowlers, finishing with 4 for 86. Fast bowler Rahat Ali too was excellent, picking up three wickets.

Pakistan did not enforce the follow-on. They batted extremely well and declared at 227 for 2, thereby setting West Indies a 456-run target. Sami Aslam, Azhar Ali and Shafiq scored half-centuries to take Pakistan to an excellent position. With over 150 overs to go, Misbah decided that Pakistan had enough runs on the board. West Indies once again did not start their run chase on a bright note, losing opener Leon Johnson early. Another opener Kraigg Brathwaite fought hard but eventually fell for 67. Bravo and Marlon Samuels fell for 13 and 23 respectively. Yasir once again did the damage with the ball, picking up two out of the four wickets to fall. Rahat Ali and Mohammad Nawaz too chipped in with a wicket apiece. Pakistan, however, failed to break the partnership between Chase and Blackwood. The duo played the rest of the day, after Brathwaite’s without any trouble and will want to do the same on the fifth and final day of the Test.

West Indies have already lost the first Test – a day-night match at Dubai by a narrow 56-run margin. They will look to play out the entire day and somehow go into the third Test trialling the series 1-0. West Indies have been whitewashed in the T20I and the One-Day International (ODI) series prior to this series. They will want to ensure that they do not get whitewashed in the Test series as well.
