Mumbai are currently on top of the Group A points table with two victories from the four matches they have played. The team has not lost a single match so far and against Uttar Pradesh, who have not won a single match so far and lost three of the five they have played, will be the favourites. Karnataka top the table of Group B, with three victories from the four matches they have played so far. They will play Rajasthan who are currently at No. 4 in the points table of the group. Haryana lead the table of Group C, with two victories from five matches that they have played and will play Jammu and Kashmir who are second from the bottom.

Mumbai cruised to a comfortable 10-wicket win against Railways in Round 5 of Ranji Trophy 2016-17, Group A match at Mysore. On Day Four, Deshpande grabbed three crucial wickets of Faiz Ahmed, Ashish Yadav and DN Bansal apart from the two wickets he grabbed on Day Three. Shardul Thakur, Vijay Gohil and Balwinder Sandhu picked apiece to dismiss Railways for 208, after they resumed their second innings at 135 for 4. Mumbai were provided target of 24 that Akhil Herwadkar and Shreyas Iyer secured 18 and 6 runs respectively in just 5 overs to ease to victory.
