South Africa A will take on Afghanistan A in the third ODI of the tri-series. This is the first contest between these teams. So far, India have played two matches, losing one against the home team and winning comprehensively against Afghanistan. Due to pay dispute with Cricket Australia, their A team decided to withdraw from the tour. That opened doors for Afghanistan who were recently given Test status by International Cricket Council.
The opening content turned out to be a thriller. South Africa dismantled India for 152. Dwaine Pretorius and Aaron Phangiso shared 7 wickets between them. Captain Manish Pandey scored a resilient half-century. Barring him, none of the batters could find their feet. India, however, put up a good fight. Yuzvendra Chahal took three-wicket haul, but the leg-spinner could not bail out his side. South Africa merely won by 2 wickets. After the defeat, India bounced back and beat Afghanistan by 7 wickets.
Although Afghanistan are no match to South Africa’s might, they will leave no stone unturned to pull off the unlikely and open their account in the series.
