Welcome to the CricketCountry’s live coverage of the first One-Day International (ODI) between South Africa and New Zealand at Supersport Park, Centurion. The two teams meet in the format for the first time since the epic semi-final in Wellington in the World Cup held earlier this year. This will be South Africa’s chance to test themselves against a quality opposition before embarking upon a 72-day tour of India in the months of October, November and December. The Twenty20 series between the hosts and New Zealand ended 1-1. It is expected that this ODI series will be closely contested as well. Live Scorecard and ball by ball commentary: South Africa vs New Zealand 1st ODI at Centurion

A lower-order hitting by David Weise and Mitchell McClenaghan brought the chase close, but Steyn closed it out by bowling McClenaghan out in the 48th over, and the Ish Sodhi, the last man in, was run out immediately after

Live Cricket Score New Zealand 251/8 | Overs 45 | Target 305| Batting: Adam Milne 4 (6): Although wickets have pegged New Zealand back, and they are clearly not the favourites from here, the possibility of a few big hits from the lower order to shift momentum cannot be ruled out.

Live Cricket Score New Zealand 158/5 | Overs 30 | Target 305| Batting: Jimmy Neesham 1 (1), Colin Munro 0 (1): New Zealand have lost their way a bit as they have lost three wickets in a hurry and now face an uphill task of wining this match. Live Cricket Score New Zealand 108/2 | Overs 23 | Batting: Tom Latham 50 (62) Martin Guptil 1 (3): Big blow for the visitors. Kane Williamson. He gets out at a crucial juncture of the game. Meanwhile Tom Latham is batting well. He has reaches his half-century. Martin Guptill has come out to bat at No. 4.

Live Cricket Score New Zealand 15/1 | Overs 3 | Batting: Tom Latham 8 (10) Kane Williamson 5 (4): Not a great start by New Zealand. Chasing 305 to win, they have lost their makeshift opener Luke Ronchi in the very first over of the innings. This pair needs to put a partnership right now.

Live Cricket Score South Africa 304/7 | Overs 50 | Batting: Vernon Philander 0 (0): South Africa have finished with a competitive total. Though they would feel they are 20-25 runs short. Amla and Rossouw had given them the platform earlier. Amla had a memorable day . He was fluent right from the start, he outscored his junior partner and registered his 21st ODI hundred – levelled with Herschelle Gibbs for the most ODI tons for South Africa.

Live Cricket Score South Africa 219/1 | Overs 40 | Batting: Hashim Amla 102 (111) Rilee Rossouw 82 (107): Hashim Amla gets to his 21st ODI century. His has been a nicely paced innings, with a significant cluster of fours and sixes in his wagon-wheel, alongside lots of dot balls. The partnership between Amla and Rilee Rossouw has crossed 150. The two have gained confidence with time at the crease. Rossouw has himself scored a half-century.

Live Cricket Score South Africa 108/1 | Overs 22 | Batting: Hashim Amla 58 (64) Rilee Rossouw 24 (48): Good progress made by the hosts. Both Hashim Amla and Rilee Rossouw are looking in great touch. Amla has already scored his half-century. Nothing is happening for New Zealand bowlers. However, for South Africa, David Wiese is making his debut.

Live Cricket Score South Africa 64/1 | Overs 14 | Batting: Hashim Amla 32 (44) Rilee Rossouw 6 (18): No sideways movement for the New Zealand pacers. It looks like a dry wicket. Morne van Wyk was the only man to get out so far. He was caught in the gully of Mitchell McClanaghan. Railee Rossouw has been promoted to bat at No. 3.

OUT: Morne van Wyk c Nathan McCullum b McClenaghan 16(22)

Live Cricket Score South Africa 25/0 | Overs 5 | Batting: Hashim Amla 10 (17) Morne van Wyk 11 (13): A decent start by the South African openers. Batters are looking quite comfortable out there. The Kiwi bowlers are giving nothing away. The pitch has some carry in it. New Zealand pacers are trying to use it.

Live Cricket Score South Africa 3/0 | Over 1 | Batting: Hashim Amla 1(3) Morne van Wyk 1(3): Surprise, surprise!! New Zealand have started proceedings with the off-spin of Nathan McCullum. As expected he has bowled a tight line. But against two right-handers this move is bit surprising.

New Zealand win toss, elect to bowl.

Fans are having a good time at the venue…

Teams:

AB de Villiers (c), Hashim Amla, Morne van Wyk (wk), Rilee Rossouw, David Miller, Farhaan Behardien, David Wiese, Vernon Philander, Dale Steyn, Imran Tahir, Kagiso Rabada, Aaron Phangiso, Kyle Abbott, Faf du Plessis

Kane Williamson (c), Luke Ronchi (wk), Martin Guptill, Tom Latham, Colin Munro, Grant Elliott, James Neesham, Nathan McCullum, Adam Milne, Ish Sodhi, Mitchell McClenaghan, Matt Henry, Ben Wheeler, Doug Bracewell, George Worker

South Africa are served behind the wickets by Morne van Wyk, as the regular choice Quinton de Kock has been sent to India for the ‘A’ team tour to get his batting form back. Van Wyk, now 36, will look to cement his place permanently. De Kock had a mediocre tour of Bangladesh, scoring 7, 2, and 35 in the three-match ODI series that had the visiting side losing 2-1. The mediocre ODI form notwithstanding, South Africa will be better off in more familiar bouncing conditions at home. The three ODIs may serve New Zealand well before their hot tour of Australia that follows, but it will not be of much help to South Africa, who await their 70-day tour of India, in the months of October, November and December. A lot of leather chasing will be expected, but fast bowlers and spinners, at least in the drier conditions in Centurion, will also be part of the show.
