Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of the second day of the first Test between Sri Lanka and West Indies at the Galle International Stadium in Galle on Thursday. This is Chinmay Jawalekar, and I shall be presenting the you the updates from the day’s play. Opening batsman Dimuth Karunaratne slammed an unbeaten ton to put Sri Lanka in a good position at the end of Day One and he along with Dinesh Chandimal (72 not out) will look to take Sri Lanka to a commanding position when play begins. Chandimal looks set to get to his fifth century, which will be a major lift for him and the entire Sri Lankan team. Kemar Roach and Devendra Bishoo were the two wicket-takers for West Indies. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: Sri Lanka vs West Indies 2015, 1st Test at Galle, Day 2

Sri Lanka had won the toss and decided to bat first. Sri Lanka had beaten India by 63 runs when they played on this ground the last time in a low-scoring affair. Sri Lanka will hope that they can get to a score in excess of 500 and put West Indies under a lot of pressure. They have a couple of world-class spinners in Rangana Herath and Tharindu Kaushal, who will get a lot of purchase on the track as days go by. West Indies too have Bishoo, who is a brilliant spinner himself. He is the lone spinner for the visitors but they can afford to bank on the the part-time off-spin of Marlon Samuels. Milinda Siriwardana makes his Test debut for Sri Lanka after an impressive performance in the tour match before the first Test. Sri Lanka vs West Indies 2015 1st Test at Galle

LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 317/2 in Overs 107: Chandimal has reached to his fifth Test century, as the Sri Lankan domination continues. The stylish batsman has so far hit 10 boundaries and a six in en route his hundred. His good form augurs well for the Lankans, who wanted their seniors to step up post retirements of their batting stalwarts Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene. On the other end, opener Karunaratne, who earlier in the day crossed his highest Test score, is inching towards his double century. Spin-duo of Bishoo and Samuels is operating from both the ends, as the West Indies continue to toil. BATTING: Dimuth Karunaratne 172 (332), Dinesh Chandimal  101  (205)

Dinesh Chandimal has just reached to his fifth Test century!

LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 299/2 in Overs 102: The duo has completed 200 run partnership and is toying around with the West Indian attack now. Both Karunaratne and Chandimal are completely dominating the game at the moment as the hapless West Indian bowlers still search for that elusive breakthrough. Apart from the reprieve that Chandimal got off Gabriel’s bowling, the batsmen have given nothing away so far. Gabriel and Bishoo are operating from the two ends and both are looking quite ordinary. With every passing over, things are getting difficult for the Caribbean side. BATTING: Dimuth Karunaratne 168 (323), Dinesh Chandimal  87  (184)

LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 273/2 in Overs 97: Sri Lanka have started day 2 from where they left. Both Karunaratne and Chandimal are looking in great touch and these are ominous signs for the West Indies. A huge score is in the making and the West Indies batsmen will have some tough work ahead. Karunaratne has crossed the 150 mark and is moving steadily towards his maiden double ton. Chandimal on the other hand is closing in on his fifth Test century. The West Indian bowlers are toiling it hard at the moment but results aren’t coming in their favour.  BATTING: Dimuth Karunaratne 151 (310), Dinesh Chandimal  78  (167)

LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 250/2 in Overs 90: Sri Lanka have posted 250/2 at stumps on day 1 of the Galle Test against the West Indies. Opener Karunaratne, has been terrific throughout the day, ended the day on 135 not out. His third Test century couldn’t have come at a better time, as the southpaw had been struggling of late. His poor form at the top of the order didn’t do any good to his team as the island country lost the Test series against India. But with him finding form, Sri Lanka are well placed in this match. In Chandimal, Karunaratne found an able-ally as the two have so far added 149 runs for the third wicket. With skipper Mathews and Kusal Perera still to come, Lanka must be hoping for a huge total. The West Indies on the other hand would hope day 2 brings some joy for them. Only Roach and Bishoo could get a wicket each today. They’d be hoping their pace-attack steps up tomorrow and restricts Sri Lanka to a small total. BATTING: Dimuth Karunaratne 135 (288), Dinesh Chandimal  72  (146)

LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 218/2 in Overs 80: Sri Lankans are cruising at the moment with both Karunaratne and Chandimal frustrating the West Indian bowlers. The due has added over 100 runs for the third wicket so far and is still going strong. A good show by the top order means that the Lankans aren’t missing a certain Kumar Sangkkara. karunaratne’s knock was a much needed one for the home team, as it was the failure of the top-order that caused Sri Lanka’s recent losses. Chandimal has proved to be a perfect partner for the opener. He brought his ninth Test fifty en route his partnership with Karunaratne. The West Indian bowlers are clearly struggling at the moment. Bringing in Kraigg Brathwaite to bowl only shows their desperation for wickets. BATTING: Dimuth Karunaratne 122 (253), Dinesh Chandimal  54  (120)

LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 196/2 in Overs 72: Post-tea, Sri Lanka have continued with their display of good batting. Their opener Karunaratne has reached his third Test hundred. Sri Lanka required at least one of their openers to go big and Karunaratne has done exactly the same. The southpaw has ensured his team gets to a good total in the Test. Chandimal too is nearing his half century and is looking well set. West Indian bowlers look out of ideas as they fail to break this partnership, which is now almost hundred runs. If the Sri Lankans carry on in the same fashion, the first day honours will go to the hosts. BATTING: Dimuth Karunaratne 107 (222), Dinesh Chandimal  47  (103)

LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 141/2 in Overs 55 at Tea: Karunaratne and Chandimal have added 40 runs for the third wicket so far and have taken Sri Lanka t0 141/2 at Tea. Karunaratne has reached to 82 not out and is moving towards his hundred. Both are looking good at the moment and if they can continue this way, the Sri Lankans are well set to put up a challenging total. West Indian bowlers have done good only in patches so far. They haven’t been too bad, but they haven’t been good either. Barring Roach and Bishoo, no bowler has picked a wicket. West Indies would hope to get a breakthrough once they come out post-tea. BATTING: Dimuth Karunaratne 82 (176), Dinesh Chandimal  18  (47)

LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 111/2 in Overs 45: Bishoo finally struck. The Sri Lankans, especially Thirimanne, were jumping around with their footwork against the West Indian spinner. Thirimanne was stepping outside the crease to defend against him. When he tried to step out and hit Bishoo over the mid-wicket, substitute fielder R Chandrika took a catch in his second effort. Thirimanne departed for 16 after facing 62 balls. He has been replaced by Dinesh Chandimal, who scored a famous match-winning hundred against India at this venue the last time he played here. Karunaratne continues to look solid and is well set for a big score here. BATTING: Dimuth Karunaratne 65 (152), Dinesh Chandimal  5  (11)

OUT! Lahiru Thirimanne c sub (Chandrika) b Bishoo  16  (62)

LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 95/1 in Overs 39: Karunaratne has reached to his fifty, a well-complied one. He reached to his fifty with a boundary off Taylor. Thirimanne got a reprieve during this phase of play when he was dropped in the first slip by Darren Bravo for 55. Bishoo has finally been introduced now. A lot will depend on how he bowls. The West Indies will be hoping he does well for them and gets the breakthrough. Sri Lankans too would keep an eye on him, as his performance will determine how the match progresses for the spinners. BATTING: Dimuth Karunaratne 58 (133), Lahiru Thirimanne  12  (56)

LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 74/1 in Overs 32: Sri Lanka have started the post-lunch session on a positive note. Both Karunaratne and Thirimanne continue to look solid against the West Indian bowling. Skipper Holder, who is operating from one end, would look to pick a couple of quick wickets to get an upper hand in the match. BATTING: Dimuth Karunaratne 47 (109), Lahiru Thirimanne  3  (38)

LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 67/1 in Overs 24 at Lunch: Sri Lanka lost their opener Kaushal Silva during this phase of play. Silva, who was looking set in the middle, was dismissed by Roach in his comeback over. Roach got him caught behind the wicket for 17. Lahiru Thirimanne has now joined Karunaratne. West Indies introduced spin in this phase of play bu surprisingly, it was not Bishoo. Marlon Samuels’ off-breaks have been preferred over his leg-breaks. BATTING: Dimuth Karunaratne 41 (88), Lahiru Thirimanne  1  (11)

OUT! Kaushal Silva  c Ramdin b Roach 17  (49)

LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 51/0 in Overs 17: The Sri Lankan openers have put on a solid opening stand of 50 runs. Both Karunaratne and Silva are looking extremely comfortable in the middle. The West Indian pace quartet of Taylor, Roach, Gabriel and Holder seems to be posing no threat for them at the moment. There are still no signs of spin, as Devendra Bishoo patiently waits for his turn. BATTING: Dimuth Karunaratne 28 (56), Kaushal Silva  17  (48)

LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 32/0 in Overs 12: The Sri Lankan openers Karunaratne and Silva are going steady at the moment. They have negotiated well with the West Indian pace attack so far. Silva is slowly opening up a bit after a few nervous moments initially. Both the batsmen will look to capitalise on this start now and make sure they set a good platform for the batsmen to follow. For the West Indies, skipper Jason Holder and Shannon Gabriel are operating from the two ends at the moment. There are still no signs of spin. BATTING: Dimuth Karunaratne 21 (38), Kaushal Silva  10 (34)

LIVE CRICKET SCORE Sri Lanka 17/0 in Overs 6: Sri Lanka have made a steady start in this Test. Their openers Dimuth Karunaratne and Kaushal Silva will need to spend time in the middle as one of the main reasons for Sri Lanka’s failure was the fact that they were not getting strong starts. For the West Indies, pacers Jerome Taylor and Kemar Roach are in operation at the moment. BATTING: Dimuth Karunaratne 10 (16), Kaushal Silva  6 (21)
