The hosts are on the fourth spot with 18 points on the Group B’s table, meanwhile Baroda are in the seventh position with two points less that of Uttar Pradesh’s. Baroda’s last match in the ongoing edition of Ranji Trophy was against Punjab in Round 7 and they did not play in the previous round. Baroda had thrashed the visitors by an innings and 116 runs, thereby taking crucial seven points. Batting first, Baroda had posted a massive total of 475 runs in 130.5 overs. In reply to that, Punjab were bowled out for 212 runs in 65.5 overs with Uday Kaul top-scoring for them with 58 runs from 147 deliveries. Baroda then enforced follow-on, where Irfan Pathan and Muaf Patel shared six wickets between them, leading Baroda to a superb victory at home.

Meanwhile, even Uttar Pradesh’s last match was against Punjab, which ended in a draw. Batting first, Punjab posted a first innings total of 272 before bundling out their opponents for 226. That gave Punjab a first innings lead of 46 runs. That was followed by Punjab declaring at 295 and set a target of 342 runs for Uttar Pradesh. However, Punjab failed to bowl them out so they had to settle for three points which they had earned on the first innings lead after the match had ended in a draw.
