West Indies had victory at a sniffing distance by the end of the day on Saturday, the third day of the second Test, as they stood 71 runs short of victory with six wickets remaining against New Zealand.
West Indies are looking good for their first series victory against an opponent other then Bangladesh since early 2009. Victory in this match will also ensure that West indies earn their first clean sweep in Test cricket in ten years.
They hold the upper hand with only 71 more runs required and Shivnarine Chanderpaul holding firm.
Overnight, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Kemar Roach were still there on 20 and 10 respectively as the winning target began to swim into view.
But it was an onslaught of spin in the morning session which left the Kiwis reeling after they had set up a 51-run lead after the first innings.
Deonarine posted figures of four for 37 as he and Tino Best conspired to rip the Kiwi middle order after the tourists had been 110 ahead overnight at 59 for 2.
Marlon Samuels continued his rich form with a sparkling knock of 54. However, strange things have happened in this game and the visitors will feel that they can take the remaining 6 wickets cheaply.
Brief Scores: New Zealand 260 & 154 (Martin Guptill 42; Dean Brownlie 35, Narsingh Deonarine 4 for 37) lead West Indies 209 & 135 for 4 (Marlon Samuels 52, Assad Fudadin 27; Tim Southee 1 for 15, Doug Bracewell 1 for 36) by 71 runs
