Sri Lanka are a good side in home conditions, hence it will be difficult for West Indies to win this match. Also the island nation is known to come out very strongly at the start of the series. However the real worry for Sri Lanka would be that their chief batsman Kumar Sangakkara who is also widely regarded as one of the greatest batsman to have played Test cricket has retired. Talking of West Indies, they too don’t have star cricketers in their squad. So, the series is more or less balanced but since the match is being played in Sri Lanka’s backyard they hold a slight advantage. Sri Lankan batsmen— Dimuth Karunaratne, Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews have big responsibilty esp. Mathews since he is a senior member of the side and also the captain. He should lead from the front. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: Sri Lanka vs West Indies 2015, 1st Test at Galle
Their bowlers— Dhammika Prasad and Rangana Herath will have to bowl in the right areas and not get intimidated by the batters. Prasad in particular will have to keep his cool and not lose it like he did in India vs Sri Lanka 2015 series when he had an altercation with Ishant Sharma. West Indies batsmen— Dwayne Bravo and Marlon Samuels are the pillars of their middle-order. It will be their responsibility to bat well and get the sheen off the new ball if one of the openers gets out cheaply. Their fast bowlers— Kemar Roach and Shannon Gabriel have greater obligations than the spinners since Sri Lankans are not very good batsmen of fast bowling.
