The contest is already being touted as the clash of pacers. Eden Gardens in recent times have assisted seamers and in the last game played at this venue, KKR bowled out Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to 49. DD boast of heavy pace attack with the likes of Chris Morris, Pat Cummins and Zaheer Khan who have picked wickets regularly in the batsmen-dominated tournament. However, KKR also pose formidable unit with their overall performance. KKR are in a comfortable position post a historic victory against RCB and eased to yet another victory against Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) on Wednesday. KKR’s Sunil Narine has grabbed his opportunity well as an opening batsman.
Robin Uthappa’s consistency and Manish Pandey’s starts in the middle-order make KKR’s batting unit a formidable one. As for the bowling department, Nathan Coulter-Nile could be back for the game against DD after being rested for the previous match against RPS. With his inclusion, KKR would look to unleash full pace battery and spin department being spearheaded by Narine and Kuldeep Yadav.
Although DD’s bowling has paid off, their batting-unit have had a topsy-turvy journey in this tournament with the likes of Rishabh Pant and Karun Nair yet to fire. However, Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer have maintained their consistencies.
With DD needing to win next five games in span of nine matches with a healthy run-rate on hand, they would hope to change their fortunes in the upcoming matches. KKR, on the other hand, look to inch closer to playoffs.
