South Australia Redbacks displayed a disciplined effort with both bat and bowl to beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 19 runs at Rajiv Gandhi International stadium on Tuesday.
Chasing a massive total of 188 runs, Kolkata failed to get a partnership as they were put on back foot by Redbacks from the beginning of their run chase.
Kane Richardson and Gary Putland took two wickets each. A fighting 40 runs inning by middle order batsman Manoj Tiwary did not prove enough as Redbacks backed by brilliant fielding kept on taking wickets at regular intervals.
Earlier, South Australia Redbacks set a target of 188 with the help of a resurgent innings by Callum Ferguson who scored 70 runs off 40 balls.
Kolkata had earlier after losing the toss asked to bowl first. The Gautam Gambhir-led team showed much disciplined effort backed by good fielding.
Brief Score: SA Redbacks 188 for 5 in 20 overs (Callum Ferguson 70*, Daniel Christian 42; L Balaji 2 for 27) beat KKR 169 for 9 in 20 overs (Manoj Tiwary 40, Ryan ten Doeschate 32 ; Gary Putland 3 for 31) by 19 runs
