The Phillip Hughes Memorial match has begun at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kathmandu, Nepal on Saturday. The participating teams, Team Blue and Team Red feature a mix of cricketers from Australia and Nepal and are captained by Ryan Carter (Australia) and Binod Das (Nepal). The two teams are allotted 31.3 overs each, with the 63 overs signifying the late Phillip Hughes (63 not out in his final innings) as well as the late Richie Benaud (played 63 Tests). The match is being telecast live on Youtube on Nepal Television.

Australian cricketer Hughes died because of a fatal injury which he sustained while playing for South Australia against New South Wales at Sydney Cricket ground (SCG) during a Sheffield Shield game on November 25, 2014. The whole sporting world expressed grief following that unfortunate incident. Nepal cricket is the latest to pay homage to Hughes. Complete coverage of Phil Hughes’ tragic demise

Benaud, on the other hand, passed away on Friday after a prolonged battle against skin cancer, the condition of which he had announced in November last year. Benaud was 84 at the time of his death. He was widely considered as one of the greatest commentators to have graced the sport, having commentated for organisations such as BBC and Nine Network in a career that spans nearly five decades. He was also a successful cricketer, having played 63 Tests and holding the distinction of being the first Test cricketer to score 2,000 runs and take 200 wickets.
