The Home of Cricket, Lord’s had just witnessed a Guinness World Record in 2016, when former England skipper Nasser Hussain successfully attempted the highest catch to be ever taken. Almost a year later, the venue has witnessed another Guinness World Record, as Marylebourne Cricket Club (MCC) hosted a charity function in association with Chance to Shine. The record for ‘largest cricket lesson (single venue)’ was broken on Monday, where 580 school children from Chance to Shine schools took part in the event, therefore breaking Cricket Australia’s (CA’s) record of 488 children in December 2016 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). The event was pre-approved Guinness World Record, and was led by former England Women’s skipper Charlotte Edwards as well as former England international Isa Guha. As reported by Lord’s official website, the Guinness World Records adjudicator was present during the 30-minute to event to ensure that all the rules are adhered, while children performed bowling and fielding drills at the venue. “It was brilliant to see so many young people having the opportunity to play and learn through cricket and beating the Guinness World Record set by the Aussies at the Home of Cricket was the icing on the cake!” said Edwards. MCC had earlier went into a partnership with Cricket Foundation and Chance to Shine to reintroduce cricket in state schools in 2009. Following the reintroduction, Chance to Shine schools all across England have been introducing MCC Spirit of Cricket messages to adhere with the laws of the game. The partnership with MCC is an attempt to ensure fair play and inspire as well as guide them to learn key life skills. Chance to Shine is aiming at reaching 5,00,000 people, with half of them expected to be girls.
