Former Australia cricketer Mathew Hayden praised Rohit Sharma for his brilliant knock of 70 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
After restricting SRH to 143/8 in 20 overs, MI chased down the target with ease as Rohit Sharma’s impressive knock of 70 guided MI to their second consecutive victory in IPL 2025. MI secured a convincing 7-wicket victory over SRH with 4.2 overs to spare, with this MI also climbed to the third position in the IPL points table.
With his knock of 70 off 46 deliveries, Rohit became the second Indian batsman after Virat Kohli to score 12,000 runs in T20s. He also surpassed MI’s batting coach Kieron Pollard by hitting three towering sixes, becoming the player with the most sixes for Mumbai. Pollard had 258 sixes, while former MI captain Rohit now has 260.
“It was excellent, well-measured innings. There was power, but more than anything, it was about his tempo. He knew he had a moderate total to chase. When you look at the seven-wicket victory, Mumbai Indians had plenty in the tank.” Hayden siad on JioHotsar
“It was a very emphatic and confident win, something Sunrisers Hyderabad clearly lacked. Rohit’s innings had vision, stability, and perfect timing. It made the rest of the team rocket ahead,” Hayden added
Batting first, SRH were reduced to 35 for 5, but a 99-run stand between Heinrich Klaasen (71) and Abhinav Manohar (43) helped them recover to post a modest total of 143. SRH reached the 100-run mark in the 17th over, followed by a late surge that took their final score to 143/8.

Hayden also shared his thought on what went wrong for SRH, “The simplest explanation is just a lack of confidence. When you start losing the way SRH has, it’s tough to bounce back. They were seen as benchmark batters, but right now they’re far from that. This has led to issues in the middle order. It comes down to regaining confidence—not just in the top order but across the unit.”
