Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has decided to spend around Rs 15 crore to upgrade the facilities at Madhavrao Scindia Stadium in Rajkot, which will include setting up of flood lights.
A committee including corporators Nitin Bhardwaj, Kashyap Shukla, Dharmendra Mirani and RMC’s Town Planning Officer Bakul Rupani recently visited DY Patil stadium in Mumbai and Sahara stadium in Pune.
Rupani said the committee was impressed by the facilities at Sahara stadium.
However, as per the BCCI policy, international matches would be given to those associations which have their own stadiums.
Accordingly, Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) is building a stadium near Khandheri in Jamnagar.
Asked about BCCI’s policy, Rupani said the objective of upgrading the facilities at Scindia ground (which would not get international matches) was to encourage club and domestic cricket.
To save on the electricity bill, the flood lights would be powered by solar panels.(PTI)
