Defending champions Maharashtra suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Orissa in the final group match at the All India Buchi Babu memorial cricket tournament on Friday.
Dismissing Maharashtra for a meagre 110 runs in 49.3 overs with left-arm spinner Sudipta Swain claiming four for 18, Orissa achieved the target scoring 112 for four in 37.4 overs.
In a group C tie, TNCA President’s XI posted a modest total of 387 for 5 in 90 overs with wicketkeeper batsman Dinesh Karthik maintained his consistent performance with a well made 137 (193b, 15×4, 3×6) before retiring due to cramps against Saurashtra.
Karthik and Nilesh Subramaniam(70) put on 157 runs for the second wicket in 39.3 overs and then Prasanna (83) and Vijay Shankar (54) added 111 runs in 27.2 overs for the fourth wicket.
With the completion of matches in Group-A, Orissa and second placed Maharashtra progressed to the quarterfinals, while Hyderabad got eliminated. (PTI)
