Sri Lanka finished the second day of the second Test against Pakistan at 318 for 4, having an overall lead of 153 in Dubai on Thursday.
Mahela Jayawardene overcame a left hand injury to strike his 32nd Test century and was batting on 106. Angelo Mathews was the other unbeaten batsman with 42.
Pakistan had scored 165 in their first innings.
Opener Kaushal Silva missed his maiden century by just five runs and added 139 runs with Jayawardene.
Left-arm paceman Junaid Khan was the pick of the bowlers with two for 75.
