Manoj Tiwary propelled East Zone to a fighting score of 273 for 9 in 50 overs against North Zone in a semi final clash of the Deodhar Trophy in Mumbai. East Zone poked and prodded before Tiwary exploded in the last 10 overs helping them to an eventual total of 273 in their fifty overs. The only real source of momentum in east Zone’s scratchy innings was Captain Manoj Tiwary who scored a belligerent century giving them a fighting chance of making it to the final.
Winning the toss and fielding first North Zone reaped rewards for their seemingly wise choice as East Zone lost two wickets after having crawled to 32 in the 12th over. All rounder Rishi Dhawan and Vikas Tokas shared the first two wickets the first of which was that of Parvez Aziz in the fourth over of the innings.
Pocket Size dynamo Shreevats Goswami and captain Manoj Tiwary who has been in sublime form of late, soaked up the pressure and started to rebuild the innings for East, adding 60 runs for the third wicket before Goswami fell to Amit Mishra, seven short of a half century. The wicket of Goswami didn’t hamper Tiwary’s rhythm, as he was striking the ball like a dream, scoring at better than a run a ball all through his innings. He completed his third List A hundred of 93 balls even as wickets tumbled around him. he finished with 151 from just 121 balls ,singlehandedly taking East Zone to a fighting total of 273 .His innings included 15 fours and four massive sixes.
Brief scores:
East Zone 273 for 9 in 50 overs (Manoj Tiwary 151 , Shreevats Goswami 43 ; Sandeep Sharma 3 for 49, Rishi Dhawan 2 for 52)
