South Africa’s Mark Boucher on Wednesday became the first-ever wicketkeeper to take 500 catches in Test cricket, during the opening day of the first Test against Australia at Newlands.

 

Boucher caught Australia opener Philip Hughes off debutant Vernon Philander to achieve the feat in his 140th Test match.

 

Boucher has taken 498 catches for his country, whereas two of his catches came against Australia when he represented the ICC World XI in October 2005.

Boucher made his Test debut against Pakistan in 1997, and played 75 consecutive matches before being dropped for India tour in 2004.
