Marlon Samuels adjudged WICB cricketer of the year

Along with Marlon Samuels, Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and others too won awards.

West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels has been awarded the Cricketer of the year and also the One-Day International (ODI) cricketer of the year by the WICB. Chris Gayle too bagged an award. He won the WICB T20 player of the year. Samuels hit an unbeaten 85 in the T20 World Cup 2016 final against England to hand West Indies their second title. Gayle has been in sensational form in the shortest format for the West Indies over the year also hit an unbeaten century against England in the opening match of the T20 World Cup. There were other winners as well. West Indies Women captain Stefanie Taylor, who led her team to a T20 World Cup win was awarded the Women’s T20 and ODI player of the year. Youngster Shimron Hetmyer led the West Indies Under-19 team to the Under-19 World Cup win in Bangladesh and was named the Under-19 player of the year as a result., according to cricbuzz.com.

Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican, who made his Test debut recently against Sri Lanka, was named the emerging player of the year. For their consistency in the domestic circuit, Jason Mohammed was awarded the PCL 50-over player of the year and Veerasammy Permaul was given the PCL four-day player of the year.
