New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill on Tuesday said he has started picking up mystery spinner Sunil Narine, who has troubled the Kiwis throughout in their tour of the West Indies and USA.
Narine bagged 13 wickets in their five-match One-Day International series, and took two in as many Twenty20 games played in Florida.
The right-handed Trinidad and Tobago cricketer bagged his maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket in their opening Test at Antigua, wherein the Caribbean side thrashed New Zealand by nine wickets.
“You’ve got to watch the ball hard and be able to pick him,” Guptill said.
“But I thought myself and Brendon [McCullum] played him pretty well and there was a few balls that kicked up a bit and I got out to one of them.
“I guess it’s just watching the ball hard and watching what his hand’s doing. You can pick up a couple of little keys with his deliveries. If you can pick those up then you are going to go well in picking him.
“It is getting easier. We’ve played him a lot this series. You keep on watching his hand. It’s going to get easier the more you face him,” the 25-year-old was quoted as saying by New Zealand Herald.
Guptill missed out on a century when he was fell to Narine on 97 in the first innings, and scored 67 before the Caribbean spinner had him caught by Asad Fudadin.
