Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza praised team’s bowlers as well top-order batsmen Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar after the team registered their first victory in the ongoing Ireland Tri-Nation series. Bangladesh’s first fixture with the same opponents was washed out while they lost their second to a dominant New Zealand, making the fourth One-Day International (ODI) a crucial fixture. The bowlers, led by Mortaza and Mustafizur Rahman, restricted Ireland at 181 and later the top-order chased the target down with ease, posting a convincing 8-wicket victory with 22.5 overs to spare. Sarkar (87*) and Mustafizur (4 for 23) stole the show with their performances. Full Cricket Scorecard: Bangladesh vs Ireland, Match 4, Ireland Tri-Series
“We didn’t take early wickets in the last match but this time the bowlers did a really good job and that’s something we are looking for all the time. Winning the toss was crucial as there was some moisture and both fast bowlers used it well. Early wickets always put pressure on a team but Tamim Iqbal and Soumya batted really well and scored at seven an over for the first 10 overs which was important for us,” a happy Mortaza said in the post-match conference, reported AFP.
“We’re looking looking forward to it, we had a chance in the last match but didn’t go through with it, but if we play as well as we did today there is a chance to win the game,” Mortaza said about Bangladesh’s final ODI against New Zealand in the series.
