Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has demanded explanation from Suryakumar Yadav regarding a retweet he had posted on twitter on his omission from team for Inter-state T20 tournament. As per the rules of MCA, the players are not allowed to put comments on selection over social media. The young cricketer who plays for Mumbai has been asked to summon before the MCA’s Managing committee on Tuesday. Additionally, his selection for Mumbai squad for Vijay Hazare Trophy has been withheld till the committee announces its final decision. Khanvilkar had let-off Suryakumar last year as well when he expressed disappointment on being dropped over Jay Bistan for Mumbai’s semi-final game in the Ranji Trophy season.
MCA joint-secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar told ESPNcricinfo. “We have a managing committee meeting tomorrow where we will discuss what to do. We have called him (to appear before the committee) and have also sought a written explanation within 24 hours. The committee will review his written explanation and then we will think what is to be done.”
Khanvilkar says that they have only chosen 15 players for the match. He feels that Suryakumar is a really good cricketer and should ideally be included in the team. But after this incident, Suryakumar’s inclusion in the team may only be confirmed after the Committee’s decision.
Suryakumar has been involved in some controversies in the past too. He had quit as Mumbai’s captain midway after a disappointing 2015-2016 Ranji season. He was also reprimanded by MCA for using foul language on players on field and in the dressing room.
