Leo Lions have won the second match of Masters Champions League (MCL) 2016 by 26 runs. Leo Lions had won the toss and they decided to bat first. They were reduced to 83 for the loss of six wickets by the end of 11.2 overs. But due to some special batting performance by the lower-order batters, they were able to post 156 runs in their innings. Johan Botha, who came at the eighth position, top-scored for them with his unbeaten 42-run knock off only 29 balls. His innings included three boundaries and two shots which dispatched the ball over the ropes. Besides him, James Franklin scored run-a-ball 31. For Commanders, Rory Kleinveldt and Jeetan Patel took two wickets each while Abdul Razzaq and Upul Chandana also chipped in with a wicket each.
In reply, Commanders got off to a good start with their first wickets falling in the form of Andrew Symonds when there were 63 runs on board. Symonds scored 21 off as many deliveries while his opening partner Ashwell Prince gave him good support at the other end. Prince scored 34 in 37 balls. Symonds’ wicket was picked up by Heath Streak. Paul Collingwood, who came tw0-down was cleaned up by Fidel Edwards for 19 after Chamara Silva was caught by Peterson off Botha’s bowling. Commanders then went through an undesirable middle and lower-order batting collapse as they got reduced to 133 for 7 soon after as all batsmen who came after Collingwood were not even able to reach double figures, Razzaq included. Commanders could only manage 130 in their allotted 20 overs losing eight wickets in the process.
Brief Scores:
Leo Lions 156 for 8 (Johan Botha 42(29), James Franklin 31(31); Rory Kleinveldt 2 for 18, Jeetan Patel 2 for 24) beat Capricorn Commanders 130 for 8 (Ashwell Prince 34(37), Paul Collingwood 19(21); Fidel Edwards 4 for 33, Scott Styris 2 for 14) by 26 runs
