Ashok Menaria scored a brilliant double century while Robin Bist hit a ton to help defending champions Rajasthan declare their first innings on 521 for eight on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Division match against Railways on Friday.
Replying to Rajasthan’s massive first innings total, Railways ended the day on 32 for one with Shivakant Shukla batting on 17 and Shreyas Khanolkar giving him company on six.
Earlier, resuming at an overnight total of 257 for two, Menaria, who was unbeaten on 142 and Bist batting on 85, went on to complete their double ton and century respectively.
Railways bowlers struggled hard to get the breakthrough, but the overnight pair stood their ground firmly to put up a 398-run stand for the third wicket.
Finally, Arlen Konwar managed to break the solid partnership by seeing off Menaria, who hit a 408-ball 230, studded with 21 fours and three sixes.
Shortly after his partner’s departure, Bist also got out to Yere Goud’s delivery caught by Vairamudi Cheluvaraj for 167 off 482 balls that included 14 fours and two sixes.
Thereafter, Rashmi Parida (30), Vaibhav Deshpande (27) and Pankaj Singh (24 not out) contributed to the team’s total to take it past 500-run mark.
For Railways, Anureet Singh finished with the figures of five for 153.
Railways then got off to a poor start, losing their opening batsman Cheluvaraj (2) cheaply. Shukla and Khanolkar though made sure that Railways do not lose any more wicket before the draw of the stumps.(PTI)
