Australia captain Michael Clarke said on Frday that the team could regain the number one position in One-Day Internationals.

“When we left England (in July this year) we were still the number one-ranked team in the world but because of other teams playing, we’ve slipped back down to four,” Clarke was quoted as saying by Zee News.

“But to me it’s about playing really good consistent cricket all around the world and I know we’ll get back to being number one,” he added.

Clarke also brushed off speculations that he will bat up the order.

“I have made it very clear since taking over the captaincy that I’ll bat wherever is best suited for the team. In this series if me batting three is the right option, that’s what I’ll do.”

Clarke also believed that Afghanistan will be a tough opponent at Sharjah where they have more experience.

Earlier, Clarke had said that the low rankings were unacceptable for the Australians.

“Every player knows that it’s unacceptable for an Australian team to sit there, but that’s easy to say; it’s about what we do.”

Clarke said it was up to individuals to take responsibility for results.

“It’s actually not about what we say now, it’s about what we do as a team,” Clarke concluded.
