Michael Clarke, the recently retired Australian captain congratulated his former teammate Shane Watson, on “an amazing Test career”. Watson announced his retirement from the longer format of the game on Sunday. Though a series of injuries hampered his career,  but this Queenslander has been one of Australia’s prime all-rounders of this decade. Watson played 59 Tests for Australia, scoring 3,731 runs and taking 75 wickets. The last match of the 34-year-old’s Test career, which spanned a decade, came in the Ashes 2015 opener at Cardiff which England won by 169 runs. Watson made 30 and 19 with the bat, and failed to take a wicket, causing him to lose his place for the rest of the series, with 23-year-old Mitchell Marsh becoming the Test side’s preferred all-rounder. After being omitted from the team, Watson had received support from Coach Darren Lehman. In an interview, Lehman had insisted that the man would make a comeback as there is still plenty of cricket left in him. Australia will be travelling to Bangladesh at the end of this month to play two Tests. Sadly, Watson won’t be a part of that side as he thought it is time to put curtains down to his career in the longer format of the game. READ: Shane Watson Test retirement: Twitter reactions
