Misbah-ul-Haq had a great start to his debut match at Lord’s by scoring a century in Day 1 of first Test against England. Winning the toss, Pakistan decided to bat first and ended the first Day with 282 for 6 with their skipper being unbeaten at stumps. By scoring a ton on his debut at Lord’s, he also entered the illustrious list of being the 6th oldest Test player to score a ton at the age of 42 years. He became the 9th person in the list to score a Test ton but England’s Jack Hobbs features in the list on four occasions which made him the 6th person overall. Hobbs scored four tons in his 40s with three coming against Australia and one against West Indies. The others in the list are Patsy Hendren, Dave Nourse and Frank Woolley etc. ALSO READ: Misbah-ul-Haq slams ton on Lord’s debut vs England
After reaching his century, Misbah celebrated in a unique style by doing pushups in the grounds to show the cricketing arena his fitness and justify the old saying that ‘age does not matter’. He has been a consistent run machine for his national team since time immemorial and delivered when the chips have been down. He stitched a 148-runs stand with Asad Shafiq but the youngster got out just before the Day’s play ended. ALSO READ: England tour may catapult Yasir Shah to next level
Misbah would be eager to add more runs with the lower-order when his side takes on the field for the second day at Lord’s against England. England were missing the services of their premier bowler, James Anderson and clearly looked out of ideas, at times. Chris Woakes was their stand out performer with three wickets.
