Pakistan established a target of 232 in their One-Day International (ODI) against Scotland in Edinburgh on Friday after spinner Majid Haq claimed three wickets for the home side.

The tourists are using the game to gear up for their Champions Trophy campaign, which kicks off against the West Indies at The Oval in London on June 7.

They made a slow start after winning the toss and opting to bat at The Grange, but rallied to finish on 231 for seven.

Nasir Jamshed went for 20 before Haq claimed his first wicket of the day when Josh Davey caught Mohammad Hafeez (18) at backward point.

Imran Farhat moved to the brink of a half-century, only to be bowled by spinner Matt Machan when he miscued an attempted slog on 49.

Haq claimed the wickets of Asad Shafiq for seven and Umar Amin for three, before Kamran Akmal fell lbw to Neil Carter for 12.

Haq had gone into the match level with John Blain as the nation’s top one-day wicket-taker with 41 scalps, but impressive figures of three for 39 saw him claim the honour outright.

Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq and Saeed Ajmal steadied the boat with a 51-run partnership for the seventh wicket, but the latter fell for 28 when he misjudged a scoop shot off Iain Wardlaw and the ball skidded into his stumps.

Misbah finished unbeaten on 78, with Ehsan Adil 10 not out, as the tourists upped the run rate to leave Scotland with a challenging target to chase.

Brief scores:

Pakistan: 231 for 7 in 50 overs (Misbah-ul-haq 78*, Imran Farhat 49; Majid Haq 3 for 39) vs Scotland.
