Former Australian cricketer, Chris Rogers, called it a day from First-Class cricket after playing in Somerset’s final County Championship game of the summer on Thursday against Nottinghamshire. Rogers was a magnificent run-scorer for Australia and did a commendable job at the top. The 39-year old left-handed batsman ended his First-Class career on a high by smashing tons in both the innings to steer Somerset in a commanding position. Eventually, Somerset won the crucial game by 325 runs and are now sitting at the top of the table. They now have a golden opportunity of claiming their maiden championship title.

Rogers was quoted in a report from Cricbuzz.com saying, “That’s it for me. I have had a good career and to finish off that way is pretty special. I’m getting old. I am going to miss playing and the standing ovation from the crowd was very special, but it happens in all careers and it’s time to move on. My overriding feeling is one of immense pride in my team. We were favourites to go down at the start of the season and look where we are now. I’ll be texting a few of my old teammates at Middlesex tonight, you can be sure of that. I know what is in their dressing room and I know they will fight all the way against Yorkshire. The title race is out of our hands, but neither side will role over at Lord’s so it’s going to be interesting,” he added.

Rogers debuted in First-Class cricket in 1988-99 for Western Australia and has been productive since then. Rogers also played for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield. His technique suited longer formats and was well equipped to play long innings. He represented Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Middlesex, Northamptonshire and Somerset in the County cricket with 25,470 runs in 313 outings to his name.

Rogers made his International debut back in 2008 against India in Perth after drilling a lot in the domestic circuit. Rogers pulled curtains to his international career after the conclusion of Ashes in 2015. Rogers had 2015 runs in his basket at 42.87 in 25 Tests.
