Mitchell Johnson wins CEAT Test Player of the Year 2014

Johnson was in superb form in Ashes 2013-14.

In the 17th CEAT cricket award that is presently being held at Trident hotel, Australia’s fast bowler, Mitchell Johnson was announced as the international Test player of the year. He was also awarded with the best best Test match bowler of the year. The Australian pace spearhead though, wasn’t present to take the award.In recent times, Johnson has troubled batsmen all over the world.

 

In the Ashes series 2013-14, he took 37 wickets at an average of just 13.97 to help Australia whitewash England 5-0. He also was in great form against  South Africa. Johnson’s performance was the reason behind Australia winning the series against then ranked No 1 Test team, South Africa.It has to be said that it has been a great comeback for Johnson as he had found himself in the wilderness for a longtime. He was only getting picked in One-Day Internationals (ODIs).

 

CEAT awards was first introduced in 1995.  The Player ratings in Tests and One-Day Internationals (ODIs) take into consideration number of runs scored, number of wickets taken, number of catches taken and number of wicketkeeping dismissals in an innings. The player ratings for Twenty20 Internationals (T20I) additionally takes into consideration the economy rate of bowlers. Points are awarded on the basis of minimum runs scored or wickets taken, with bonuses for extra runs or wickets.
