Melbourne: Australian paceman Mitchell Starc has admitted that he requires ankle surgery, but added that it is not the right time to do so as he is looking forward to World Twenty20 in April. Starc, who is suffering an early stage of fracture in his right foot, said that although his injury is frustrating, it has not stopped him from bowling. According to News.com.au, James Pattinson is likely to replace Starc for the first Test against West Indies, starting from December 10. Earlier, the 25-year-old pace spearhead, who was limped off the field midway to have scans during his side’s third Test against New Zealand, was the pick of the bowlers for Australia as he bagged three wickets in the first innings of the opening day of the Pink Ball Test. Mitchell Starc unsure about when he will be able to make comeback

Meanwhile, he said Monday it could be up to four weeks before he knows when he can bowl again after another injury setback in the Adelaide day-night Test. Starc bowled only nine overs in New Zealand‘s first innings before he heard a crack in his right foot and left the field for treatment. Scans revealed a stress fracture and he is wearing a protective boot so the foot can heal. The country’s premier fast bowler following the recent retirement of Mitchell Johnson said he was unsure when he would be back, reports AFP. Mitchell Starc could return for Australia tour of New Zealand 2015-16, says Craig McDermott

He needs rest rather than surgery for his injured foot and may return for the February series in New Zealand, team bowling coach Craig McDermott said Sunday. Starc limped from the field on Friday’s opening day of the day-night Test against the Black Caps in Adelaide with scans later revealing he had stress fractures in his right foot. He came out to bat in Australia‘s first innings and hit an unbeaten 24, but was unable to run freely on his injured foot. “He (Starc) has obviously got a crack in his foot,” McDermott told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
