Hobart: Dec 6, 2011

Australia are likely to drop left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc to draft in Pat Cummins for the second and final Test match of the Trans Tasman trophy starting December 9 at Hobart.

Cummins, who is expected to get fit before the second Test, is set to be included in the final XI, skipper Michael Clarke has said.

Starc took two wickets in the first innings of the opening Test, removing Brendon McCullum and Jesse Ryder, but went wicket less in the second innings. The other debutant James Pattinson claimed five-for in the second to strengthen his bid for a place and the third quickie’s spot is final for Peter Siddle, The Telegraph reported.

“If he (Cummins) is fit it would be hard to leave him out after his performance in South Africa, no doubt,” Clarke said.

“I would imagine he will come back into the squad. I haven’t really thought about, but it would be hard to leave him out of the squad, that’s for sure. I hope they are all back and available for selection,” he said.

“Mitch (Johnson) obviously won’t be right for Hobart, but I need to speak to Alex (Alex Kountouris, team physio) and find out where all the boys are at. I haven’t spoken to him about that during this Test match, but now we have some time so I’ll talk to Alex and John Inverarity, the chairman of selectors,” the Australian skipper said.

“The plan is to announce a team. Obviously it’s disappointing that Ben Cutting got injured playing for Queensland,” he added.
