New Delhi: All-rounder Moeen Ali is set to be captain of the England cricket team during their first visit to Pakistan in almost 17 years. The team will play a seven-match T20I series in order to prepare for the upcoming T20I World Cup without their regular captain Jos Buttler, who is out due to injury. The return to Pakistan would be an emotional moment for Moeen Ali as his grandfather was from Mirpur in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and had moved to the United Kingdom to make a living.
England’s limited-overs captain Jos Buttler was ruled out of the rest of the Hundred tournament due to a calf strain. He was leading Manchester Originals and hit a total of 203 runs in his five innings this season. Manchester Originals are on the joint-third position in the tournament at the moment.
This will be England men’s team’s first series in Pakistan against the home side. After 2005, many series between both sides were hosted by the Pakistan Cricket Board in the United Arab Emirates. The away side will play seven T20I matches against Pakistan in the series from September 20 to October 2. The first six games will be held in Karachi and the seventh will take place in Lahore.
🗣️ “If Baz McCullum wants me, I’ll definitely play in Pakistan.” 👀
Moeen Ali says he would come out of Test retirement to play in England’s tour of Pakistan.

Earlier, England’s head coach Brendon McCullum had hinted that Moeen Ali might think of coming out of retirement for the Pakistan Test tour in December. “I spoke to McCullum this morning, and we did discuss Pakistan this winter. The door is always open, and yeah, I suppose I am officially unretired,” Brendon McCullum had said.
All three matches will be in Rawalpindi (1st Test), Multan (2nd Test) and Karachi (3rd Test) between December 1 to 21. The Test series will be part of the ICC World Test Championship.
