Pakistan off-spinner, Mohammad Hafeez was reported for a suspect action again during Pakistan’s 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the first of the three-match Test series at Galle on Sunday. Hafeez bowled 20 overs and took two wickets during the same match, as Pakistan took a 1-0 series lead with a 10-wicket win in the first Test.
According to a report on ESPNCricinfo, Hafeez will face a ban for a period of at least a year, which is in accordance with the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) rules for bowlers who have been reported for suspect action for the second time within a period of a year. If found guilty, Hafeez will be eligible to apply for a reassessment only after a year.
Hafeez would also have to undergo testing within 21 days of the receipt of the official report, and would be allowed to bowl until the results are out. Hafeez was earlier reported for suspect action during a Test series against New Zealand. Hafeez was finally cleared to bowl in April 2015 after undergoing remedial tests in Chennai. Pakistan had to chase 90 runs to win the game and they had very little trouble doing so. Both the openers sealed the win with impressive and quick cameos to help Pakistan beat Sri Lanka for the first time in Sri Lanka after 2006. Pakistan had earlier posted 417 after being 118 for five at the end of third day’s play but the 139-run stand between Sarfraz Ahmed and Asad Shafiq put them back on track.
