Two major milestones in a day! Mohammad Shahzad is evolving into a top-order beast for Afghanistan. After becoming the first batsman from the associate world to score a 1,000 Twenty20 International (T20I) runs, he has followed it up with his maiden T20I hundred; a rather destructive one at that. He got to the mark of just the 52nd delivery he faced. He has been in electric form through the course of the series and has only upped his game with each passing match. He has been a thorough joy to watch. He ended as the top-scorer in the preceding One-Day International (ODI) and will almost certainly achieve the same feat in the T20s. Zimbabwe’s struggle against him have exemplified in this final game when they would have liked to desperately win to salvage some pride. It looks like Afghanistan, riding on Shahzad’s knock will eye the 200-run mark. That total will be rather difficult for Zimbabwe to track down. Shahzad has been fairly consistent in the T20I format. His average of about 30 runs per match is proof of that. But it is not his average that makes him so special but his strike-rate which is above the 135 mark which is very impressive by all standards. Shahzad is the 21st batsman overall to bring up the mark of 1,000 T20I runs and has become a torchbearer of sorts for the associate world.
