Mohammad Shami becomes father to a baby girl

Kolkata: India pacer Mohammed Shami, who is recovering from an injury, had another reason to celebrate Eid after becoming a proud father for the first time following the birth of his daughter. The big moment for Shami came yesterday afternoon when his wife Hasin Jahan gave birth to his daughter at 2.40pm at a private hospital. “The baby is fine and healthy… Both are doing fine,” an elated Shami told PTI. Shami, who’s out of the team for about three months, had a surgery on his left knee and was undergoing rehab at the Bangalore-based NCA. “The recovery is going perfectly and I will once again go for rehab after a few days,” the pacer added. It is understood that Shami may miss the upcoming Tests in Sri Lanka next month and his return is likely against the home series against South Africa in September-October. Shami, as a result did not play the ongoing series against Zimbabwe. Shami was one of India’s best bowlers in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, where India were knocked out by Australia at the semi-final stage. Shami has played in 12 Tests and 47 One-Day Internationals (ODI) for India.
