Former India batsman Mohinder Amarnath is all set to become the national selector from North Zone, replacing Yashpal Sharma who has already completed his four-year term.
Amarnath, who was inducted into the IPL governing council last season, will relinquish his post over there to join the selection committee.
However, Krishnamachari Srikkanth will complete his term as the chairman of selectors, despite Amarnath having played more Test matches (69) then the former.
Next year, Amarnath will be the only one who will continue in this panel as the others will complete their four-year tenure and ‘Jimmy’, as he is popularly known, will take over as the chairman of the national selection committee.
The decision to induct Amarnath in the selection committee was taken after the affiliated units of North Zone failed to reach a consensus on Yashpal’s replacement.
